Another bear attack in BC

Already heard about the bear in your post about the double-header you scored where you broke your finger last week... And now wolves too!? And here I was thinking about asking if you'd be so generous as to show a young newbie around that area one of these days...

The wolf story was quite interesting.

LOL
I've hunted there for over 15 years and while I've bumped into the odd bear, never had one walk on by at spitting distance while I've been sitting in my spot.
Same with the wolves, I've heard they have always been around, following the deer herds but never heard or seen sign of them over the years of hunting there.
The wolf encounter was 2 years ago and I wasn't by myself for that one. I also reported the incident in detail to the local CO.
I skipped hunting there last year but it's been so good to me over the years, the bears and wolves aren't keeping me away hehehe
give me a holler next season early in sept ;)

If you sleep in a tent, especially a heated canvas wall tent with sewn in floors, having a knife beside you in the tent is smart but mainly for getting out if there is a fire or other emergency.

I understand that, and for that purpose, but in a tooth & claw fight, I would want some real knock out power:)

Non-restricted, very short OAL is good inside a tent, load it with OO buck if you are camping with others to try to minimize shoot throughs otherwise Brenneke slugs.

Chance favours the prepared mind.

You get shot with that by mistake and it REALLY going to hurt. :)

Grizz

They might be curious, but your scent is usually not an attractant unless you're menstruating or crapped your pants. The common attractants bringing them into a tent would be things like toothpaste or some food residue -- and the CO's wouldn't find anything if the guy say wiped his hands on his shirt from dinner a few hours before.

that's usually the case until it's no longer the case.
black bears don't usually stalk people but some do.
don't bet on it.
don't expect tent canvas to protect you.

True there are predatory black bears. I sleep with a 12g when under canvas.

Remington marine magnum loaded up with alternating buck-slug-buck etc... Is always in camp with me. Came in handy a few times, once here at home, and once up the tuchodi river. It's handy, and will stop anything I need it too.

I have worked mining exploration most of my life, and have had many many encounters with bears, usually we just scare each other in the thick stuff and they run off, but sometimes a bear just doesn't act like like a bear. More like a 3-400 lb a-hole lol.

What ya got on the side of the gun a light of some sort?????
Same gun I load with slugs in tent, got remote control light i can turn on in tent ,

The horses will let you know if something is up. If no horses, we used to run a string around camp about 18" above ground which was attached to bells or cans or something that would alert us while sleeping to something close. Hobbled horses woke me up once or twice but it does work..... grab your gun and defend!!!

Question: will horses react the same if a cougar is around??

There's been rumors of them around here lately..... apparently the fish cops won't do anything about if one horse dies, it has to be more than one.......
