What upper receiver do I need!

Hi folks.
I have a bit of a problem on my hands. I have a early 90's vintage colt match hbar that as much as I love that rifle I would like to use it with my DD lower since it has a ssa-e trigger etc. And want to use it as a scoped rig.

since the pin sizes are silly I can't interchange parts.

My original plan was to just buy a stripped upper and use 20" bbl on it but it seems that basically every upper available has m4 feedramps and my bbl ext has rifle ramps. I've also heard of people using rifle extention with m4 feed ramps with zero issues so what gives.

What's a guy to do here. Any leads or suggestions on where to get a upper that will work? And btw selling isn't an option due to sentimental value of the gun.

You could keep the rifle as is, and purchase a Geissele large pin trigger set for it. That way, nothing on the rifle would change, and dropping a trigger in is simpler than rebuilding the upper around another receiver.

Regards.

Either I'm confused, or other people are confused.

The OP's problem is that his upper has a large pivot pin hole? And his lower has standard size pivot pin hole?

If that's the case, you can buy a little sleeve/bushing that will allow you to use your large-hole upper on your small-hole lower.

Perhaps I incorrectly assumed that the OP have already considered that option, and discounted it, which was why he was considering replacing the upper receiver.

This is what I would do.
And build another upper as well ;)

Thanks for the advice. I had thought about getting a bushing but have been unable to locate one in Canada plus the rifle is colt grey and it would bother me on the black lower.

I know you shouldn't use a rifle extention with m4 feedramps. I also thought it would be less money to buy an upper instead of another geissele trigger.
Cheers

It will most certainly be a bit more for the trigger, but if you are that attached to the rifle, but prefer the feel/function of the DD lower, it might be a good option in the long run.

The difference will equate to a couple of hundred rounds of ammunition, but then both your guns will feel and function the same.

You could sell the Trigger Tech on the EE for twice what you paid for it (that is how it works, isn't it?), and buy the correct Geissele from Arms East.

You could probably get the adaptor from Brownells, but I am not sure, as I am on my iPhone right now. Maybe MALICE can tell you where he got the photo.

I know Brownells had them. But I can't justify the shipping costs from them right now. I'd like to find one up here if possible.

The photo was from brownells but they appear to be discontinued. :(

Know anyone with a drill press or milling machine? You could make one if you had some 5/16" drill rod (or brass rod)......

Yes, the hole needs to be offset. I have drilled many offset holes. Just scribe lines and mark the point where you want the hole, clamp in a vice (preferably one with a v notch) and drill (ideally drill and ream). .032" off center would put you pretty much at the edge so aim closer to .020-.025" o.c.

It may be easier to drill the hole in the rod, then cut that piece off. Gives you more to clamp onto.

If you ream, try to use a +.001 or +.002 1/4" reamer. If you just drill, it will probably drill a little oversize anyway

The hole in the upper will be 8mm (.3149) so if you use 5/16" (.3125) it'll fit just right.

Let me see what material i have at work tomorrow. Maybe if I'm bored i will make you one,....dont hold your breath though ;)
