At the range today and noticed that the rear sight blade is loose … I have never noticed it before but maybe it has always been that way. I am able to slide a thickness of cardboard from a shell box between the main part of the sight and the blade, seems excessive, that is how much slack there is. Wondering if that is normal or if not how I go about removing the blade and what to do to fix it … any suggestions?

Thanks

Normal. Don't have a DW but on my S&W 22A-1 the sight blade is loose too. To take mine apart take out the windage screw and the windage spring and blade comes off. Take out the elevation screw and the right tips up from the elevation spring. I'm guessing yours will be the same. Not many parts to a rear sight.

Yeah I am hesitant ... on some guns you actually have to snap off the windage screw to remove the blade ... if you google rear sight replacement on a S&W 686 you will see what I mean ... when you back the screw out you get to a point where it seems it is the end of adjustment and going further would snap something ... thus I would be looking for a new rear sight replacement screw.

Then again maybe Zedbra would sell me his NOS one ... :d

You know, I never checked that one I picked up, just got it a few months ago as a spare. I'll dig it out later, have a look and let you know. And no, it isn't for sale, sorry.

Awesome thanks ... where did you find the NOS?

There was a guy some time ago that was selling a lot of NOS Dan Wesson parts on eBay USA. An old friend of his passed away and was one of the original gunsmiths at Dan Wesson. I bought the thing a long time ago, had it shipped to my friend's house in the States and he just recently brought it up here. I also picked up some original blade sights and a DW patch as well.

Awesome stroke of luck, this stuff is getting harder and harder to find ...

Hummm, wonder what makes them loosen up over time ... just the shooting stress I guess. Thanks a ton for checking that out for me. Love the DW's, regardless of a wiggly sight ...:d

Or it could be that this old sight I have is stiff from sitting around, not being oiled. ;)
