IUR side-rail length differences.

Now, typically I'm pretty good about seeing the fine details of things. So I knew something was off during the research, purchase and eventual ownership of my CC IUR. Not in a bad way, mind you, just something was different I couldn't put my finger on.

My initial interest was started perusing through CC's website where I first came across the IUR in it's patrol carbine loadout and it's unreleased different barrel lengths.

I soon found out there was a version for commercial sale and jumped at the chance. Heck, I even managed to nab an Enhanced Lower to suit! But the entire time researching through retailers and eventually owning it, something kept urking me... Why do I feel like the side rails seem different to me than to what I had come to know? And I finally put it together... tonight, after a week of ownership in my safe already! :HR:

As shown above, the IUR on CC's site shows full length side rails. I had come back to this image dozens of times and seen the commercial sales picture less so, as some retailers had small, low quality images or even others, none at all, assuming you knew what it looked like already or they simply hadn't added it yet. Regardless, enough other retailers had a good quality image up that I had seen the product I was so eager to purchase sporting a half-length side rail system. However it wasn't until now that I pieced together why it feels and looks a tad strange to me; I guess I always expected full length side rails! And to feel smooth receiver on the support hand was a tad of a mind-#####-cross.

So I don't have a gripe or anything of the sort. Just surprised really why the change occurred. As even at the SHOT show, the IUR examples were shown with full side rails.

Was wondering if anyone had any info as to why or just any general discussion about preference, whether you like them short, don't, or would prefer the long or not.

I think it gives it a unique look in a good way. Prevents it from looking exactly like every other quad rail AR build out there.

Can't wait to get mine in the mail so I can test it out.

Not being a CC expert, I believe these IUR uppers have become available to us as surplus via an order over run for Danish Forces IIRC. As CC has stated previously there are numerous versions of their IUR's as each run is made specifically to the request of the purchaser whether that is our own LEO/Mil. or another countries LEO/Mil.

This is likely to mean your (Jacobean's and Bongoz's) IUR's may never be seen again in this exact specification (unless requested exactly as these are in another future order and then only made available to there public if in fact there is an over run), which IMHO is a good thing; making them not only rare, but unique as well (along with being a kick-ass piece of premium quality kit too).

Oh and nice looking rifle btw Jacobean...

Cheers D

P.S. I'm still waiting for the CC IUR rifle at the bottom of that main CC pic., hopefully by shot show 2016 if were lucky.

I prefer full length rail, easier to move the surefire dual switch around and attach different types of light and laser.

Oh I pulled that from google! Didn't mean to misinform, but here's mine in it's current state.

Holding off until I can decide on a BCG. Looking around for a Colt one, hoping before or around SHOT show CC releases their own, maybe. Then saving for extras (fun bits, mags, optic).

Good point, I never thought of it that way!

Yes you're right, I guess I never realized they would be made to order instead of CC designing them and then the Danes requesting a large order of the specific layout. I guess the IUR on their site are what they wanted to release to us but never got around to. Or a look into the distant future; one can hope.

That other CANSOFCOM C8 looks pretty smooth. I wish I could keep the GL recoil lug and lose the QD holes. I'll never use them, will attach a one point at the rear ambi sling piece. Oh well, an overage piece from a foreign order being rare from a reputable company makes me smile enough as it is. Definitely happy with my first ever purchase and plan to keep it always.

I just threw in a Daniel Defence Bcg because i was getting impatient waiting for a colt...and it cost me half what the Colt was going to.

Also try to find your self the lower rail cover with the integrated lug cover, it is pretty much a necessity. I just sold my extra because i was worried i was goin to miss them and ended up with two!

I'm guessing you mean this? Yeah would like one. My biggest issue right now is funds, and not due to overspending. I had a fee I had to pay for work I had been off the list for a while. It was a substantial amount but knew I would've had to have been paying it anyways over time so to owe it was really no big deal. However, through the bureaucracy, I was double charged and am now sitting waiting for $1000 to be returned to me. Was quoted around 5 business days. It's been around 10. Quite displeased and seeing a few EE options float by I otherwise would have been able to afford. So sitting pretty on anything further on my little Pew Pew until said funds are refunded.

As far as the BCG goes, I still have my patience. Only owned the rifle for a little over a week, so lots of time for it to run out :p
