How are upland bird numbers in your area?

Haven't been out for a couple of weeks because of turmoil within the family. However, as a result, I needed a day to recharge. So, I went out and took a 5 hour walk today. Don't know how many clicks I covered as it was a new spot. However, at the end of it all, this tired but rejuvenated middle aged hunter came home with 5 birds out of about a dozen seen.

There ya go...

Temagami reporting here. Went out twice, saw a dozen birds and took home six. Felt pretty good about it. Definitely getting out more this year. Last year went out four times, saw nothing.

Haven't seen as many grouse out here in Northern BC.
I've heard rumours that next season might be the first time you're going to have to buy a tag for grouse..

Ill believe it when I see it.

On the other hand, Ptarmigan are in great numbers. Can't walk 20 steps in the bush without flushing one.

Hey North Coast, drive westwards Smithers plenty out this way.

Just got back from ten days around Gowganda and Temagami. Birds were pretty good in both spots. Was finding a bird every 20 - 30 minutes around Gowganda, and a bird every 45 minutes down in Temagami.

Hunting pressure was pretty high in Gowganda. I'd run into three or four groups each hunt, but with the exception of one group they were all road hunters, which I is like a parallel universe if you're hunting on foot with a dog. No problem to put up birds on roads that were hunted constantly, there's plenty of birds sitting tight ten feet into the weeds LOL.

Decided on a whim to shift down to Temagami for the last few days. I went more for the scenery; I didn't expect the hunting to be as good, but it was still pretty decent.

Thinking of heading back up the first two weeks of November. Anyone have an idea of what the birds are like west of 144 around Gogama? Thinking of swinging over that way this time.

A few hero shots of Lola... Just over a year old now, this is her first season on birds.

Much better this year, I hunt about a hour North of Saskatoon and last year I saw two and got none. This year I have seen probably ten and managed to get one big fat one. They are very skittish, but I have seen some everytime I am out.
