I was told the test for proper gas rings is that the bolt doesn't fall out on its own when the detente pin is removed. Correct?
I tried that last night and it didn't fall out.
And, yes, it's PMC .223. Do you think that is the problem? I've never heard of people having issues with PMC ammo before.
You remove the firing pin retainer, firing pin, and cam pin, then hold the carrier with the bolt facing down. If the bolt doesn't fall out under it's own weight, the rings are good.
Some people erroneously believe that the test is to sit the carrier with the bolt facing down and if the rings can support the weight of the carrier without the bolt telescoping inwards, the rings are good.
