Hey guys/girls.

I was thinking of getting into the world of AR's... and I had a question. Is there vast performance differences based on the manufacturing specs on AR lowers? Will a low-end lower receiver give poor performance, even with high end internals on a high end upper? Or does it not really matter, and it's more about the actual parts inside, than just the receiver?

-Thanks

If the receiver is in spec, it's in spec. There is no performance difference, other than higher-end mfg's making enlarged mag wells for quicker mag changes, ambi controls, etc.

A crappy trigger group will remain a crappy trigger group, even if it's in a $500 lower.

Thanks. Pretty much answers what I was curious about.

So as long as the receiver's in spec that's not a problem... beyond that, quality depends on the internals... makes sense.

Most mil spec lowers will all be equal with only a few exceptions. The fit between the upper and lowers is the area that needs to be closely inspected.

Any quality in spec lower should do, you can get a nice noveske or cc lower for a ton of money, but to be honest an aero precision lower will do the trick just fine, if the holes line up, it should be good to go.

The lower is just a box, as long as it is a forged 7075 with a broached magwell it is good to go. I will pay extra for a flared magwell (such as noveske and others) if I want a gucci comp gun, but that is the only enhancement that is worth paying for. The "fit" and tightness with the upper is overrated, the expensive swiss arms wiggles more than any ARs I have ever had. If you are caught up by statistics and get a looser fit, put an ear plug onto the lower receiver shelfing and that is your 25 cents solution.

Otherwise, find the cheapest one and use the saving to get yourself a set of nice trigger, such as KAC and Geisselle. That does more than anything else like brand name roll marks, fancy engravings or funky fire control markings.

On the other hand, if you want something fancy that looks "different" and "custom made", there is a parade of billet lowers outthere in a variety of forms and shapes. They look nice and cool, but they honestly don't really offer any performance enhancement other than the flared magwell.
