I am starting to hate my AR! Please help!!Update post 65! Problem solved!!

How many rounds through the mags? - Is it time for new mag springs? Are the followers worn, could be time to do them too. The least common rebuild done in the shooting world is a mag rebuild, which is dumb, because it's the one you're most likely to need. Very few shooters replace mag springs, and while it isn't ###y, it's cheap and helps the gun work properly.

All the mags are less than a year old.

needs a tune up, clean or new gas glock, new gas tube, new rings, new buffer spring, check headspace, upgrade o ring in bolt. If all that fails , your barrel is toast or needs gas hole resizing. 10.5s like h3 buffers or just get an adjustable gas block. Sounds like a fun project, time to make it your own.

wow thats so nice, let the next guy bite it sheesh.
*UPDATE*
I thought about selling it for a parts gun with full disclosure but, I'm happy again!!
My buddy took it apart and checked everything, except the gas ports. Everything was tight, straight and to spec, as far as he could see. He noticed the BCG was dry and when he showed it to me, it was dry! I had not shot this AR for 2 months prior but had lubed it with G96 before putting it away. I'm guessing the G96 drained itself out of the bolt over the 2 months? Anyways, he put Mobile 1 synthetic on it, I followed cr5's advice and fired one round in the mag 5 times to see if the bolt would hold back, it did. Then I mag dumped 2 mags of the PMC stuff and everything cycled perfectly!
I don't know enough about different ARs but I'm guessing the tolerances are so tight on the higher end guns that they don't like running dry? Cheap lesson and I will soak the crap out of it now everytime before hitting the range.
I'm in love again!! Thanks all for your help!!

None of the ars like running dry. If you are storing it for a long term, have you considered using grease?

Try using 5,56 nato loads or Norc 5,56 as they are hotter than American loads, I never have FTF with them, also change your lube to FrogLube, AR's love the stuff, as for bad mags, sorry but I disagree with the concept, decent followers with properly gauged lips and all mags will feed.

What is considered long term as far as storage? A month, a year? I've never used grease. Gun oil and G96 is it. I just need to remember to lube it up before I shoot. I didn't lube it before the shoot as I assumed the stuff I put on would be good enough from 2 months prior. Guess not!

That varies, I guess my definition would be a couple months or longer. Try slip2000 ewg. I have had excellent experience with it.

That stuff is expensive! How long does the 4 oz jar last?
How's it compared to Froglube or Fireclean?

Fireclean is kind of like oil but it does work well, not cheap either. Yes the slip2k stuff isnt cheap. How long it lasts depends on how sparingly you use it, I just put a light film on, honestly I've never thought about it, when it runs out I buy more. I think froglube is overrated garbage. That being said I do shoot in outdoor ranges in the cold, and froglube really doesn't like cold, so it might still work for you if you only shoot in nice warm conditions. both slip2k and fireclean work quite well in the cold.

Thanks for the info!
We shoot outside here also. Where do you get the slip2000? I see Amazon.ca has it.

One shot tactical, ctcs are the two places I usually look at, I'm sure there are other place, amazon is an absolute rip off, don't buy it from them.

Skip all the snake oil bull#### and just use Mobil 1 or CLP.
At every CQB clinic I've attended there are people who have used frog lube or some other form of snake oil stripping their rifles to clean and relube after laying in the dirt or mud shooting from the modified prone position.
Stick with Mobil 1 or better yet CLP.

good to hear it's working again. Any time my rifles have been sitting for a while I give the BCG a couple drops of oil before I head to the range. I don't soak it, just a couple drops. I usually take a small oil bottle with me as well just in case as I've needed it myself and I've rescued other people's rifles with it in the past.
I started running a nickel boron coated BCG in one of my rifles around a year ago and it's awesome. Even when it's dry it remains slippery. I still oil it but feel pretty confident it would continue to run for quite a while without any oil.

I'm still at a bit of a loss as to how lack of lube would cause the double feeds you described but for now it's good to hear the problem appears to be solved. :)

thanks cr5. Good point about the type 2 failures. Remember, the whole thing was in the dark. I had no way to see what actually happened in the chamber. It is possible, with the dry bolt and competition pressure, I short stroked on the racking, didn't eject the empty and fed in the new round. I didn't think I did that but who the heck knows? Feel isn't real, right?
If the gun goes down again, you guys will hear about it! LOL!
