Has anyone shortened the stock on their Savage Axis? I am a pretty small guy, and the LOP is too long for me right now.

I have read about HOW to do it (cut it, then epoxy a piece of wood into the hollow stock so I have something to drill a new recoil pad into) but I was wondering if anyone has actually attempted it, and if so, what was your experience? Did it turn out good? Did you F up the stock? Are you satisfied with how it turned out?

Thanks.

The youth stock is 1 7/8" shorter, which is shorter that what i want. I also want to install a better recoil pad, i don't really care for the one on the rifle now.

Thanks though.

I have thought about shortening up mine a bit ......

cutting it is easy , it is properly gluing it back together that can be difficult .
for that I would be using 3m's panel bond adhesive . the more I use it in unusual situations the more faith I have in it.

this is what I may do .

cut the stock back to the desired length .

take the piece removed , remove the but pad from it and fit it to the inside of the cut on the stock , like a plug.

once that is nicely fitting together , glue the mess together , then gently heat it with a heat gun to get panel bond to kickover and harden .

now if the but pad came apart nicely I'd clean that up , fit it to the stock then glue it in place .

I plan to replace the recoil pad.

My plan was to cut the stock, then fit a piece of wood into the open hole, which i can then screw a new pad into it. The piece of wood would be glued into place after the stock is cut.
