ive been thinking about doing this for awhile and finally have the funds so im going to do a mosin long range giggles build. what aftermarket stock do you think will be most accurate (im going to pillar bed and free float it as well) also what mount its best for accuracy,i want something thats not going to move and would be durable(im trying to see how much accuracy i can squeeze out of the mosin). also would a hex receiver be better for mounting?

thanks again

I'm in the process of pillar and glass bedding my 1 MOA capable Mosin into a Boyd's Featherweight stock. I had it in a glass bedded ATI Monte Carlo stock before that and it shot great.

Edit- I have an ATI scope mount. It's rock solid.

OP, you will probably hate me for this but... Why not a Mauser instead of a Mosin ?

As much as I like M/N, I think its really a waste of money to sporterize a M/N.
I see sporterized M/N in the EE sometimes and they have hard time selling it for half the value of the build.

I honestly don't see any advantages to build a sporterized M/N.

That been said, the best scope mount for a Bubba M/N is a Rock-Solid-Industries mount.

Your money, do what you want but it doesn't make a lot of sense. Either shoot the Mosin in its original configuration as a "vintage" rifle, or buy a modern rifle and shoot that.

There is very little money savings making a cheap Mosin into a "modern" shooter by adding a stock and optics. You will be much further ahead with an out of the box Remington or Savage and a $100 scope. Milsurp is cheap but not very accurate (2-3 MOA is good; frequently worse). Reloading components are much more expensive for 7.62x54 than for 0.308. Expect to pay 30% or more premium for 0.310/0.311 bullets.

People are interested when they see an old wooden stock military rifle is capable of. Not sure you can say the same for a modernized rifle of unremarkable accuracy.

im open to any milsirp but as of right now i dont have time to reload 8mm and my friend that sold him that rig make me custom 7.62x54r ammo that we squeezed that gun down to 3 groups around 3/4" after we let the barrel cool

Try to source a UK59 barrel and have it rethreaded to fit the receiver. I've seen quite a few builds like that down in the states that put up impressive accuracy with that mod alone

You know how to live! Good for you, tell us what happens as you make progress.

Thank you and will do I'm going to order a hex receiver, glass bed it in an ATI stock with piller beds aswell, then free float the barrel, cut and recrown at 22" and put and RSI scope mount on and a barska 10-40x50 all loc-tight'd down for good measure then bench it to see how accurate it is then maybe in the future move up to a bluegrass customs stock. I've gotten sub MOA before with the mosin above that my friend built then sold him so I'll do it again with his help

Barska eh? I dont hear very good things about them... Do you have any experience with 'em?

Boyds stock of your style. Don't go plastic. The Arcangel is a little too flimsy, and also extremely heavy, which as far as I know is a better synthetic stock.

Don't free float these barrels either. They like to be supported.
