234 Wildcat Family....ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY

A Model 7 Pipsqweek would seem like a perfect fit.

Where would one be in life without sh!t, huh?

Point of fact.....one company I worked for had a S.H.!.T. program.
S........special
H........high
!.........intensity
T........training

They were always keeping me in that program.
It really stunk .............. though............................H:S:

Glad to read yer owtt oh hibernayshun there Douglas.

I think you are referring to his name on here, C-FBMI. It is the registration of an aircraft he once owned and the registration is for Canada, having nothing to do with which province or territory.
In aviation lingo only the last three letters are mentioned. Thus, some of us refer to him as BMI.

I'm still here Doug, but have had a pile of sh!t heaped on me this summer.........5 trips to Whitehorse and back (6000 Kms round trip), Buddies 50th Wedding anniversary in Red Deer, first Kathleen's funeral in May in Dawson Ck, now 5 months later Bevan's funeral in Dawson Ck. Had to gate my property and then this week past I was instructed to paint all the trim on the exterior of our house. Had to lift the barn wall back up on the foundation then cut out a section of the outside wall so I could go in and drill and pin the wall to the foundation, something my father never saw fit to do. Oh ya and my new lathe is dead and I haven't had the opportunity to find out why yet and I still do not have an action wrench.............the gun Gods hate me I think, I feel as though I'm being ganged up on...........

Gibbs505..........nothing on the '06 case, 284 Win but not the '06 sorry.

I've been wondering where this thread went. Was watching and waiting for some results. Still alive and .... maybe not well but it seems there is still hope

Hello Douglas, and thanks for the reply!

I am glad to hear that you are alive and kicking, even if things have taken a few detours.........

I still have that very heavy .23 cal barrel (from Ambrose, chambered for .23 BR) and a few hundred .23 cal bullets, so am still looking forward to a Penguin build.

Best regards, and I hope life stops throwing curve balls at you.

Doug

Retirement is suppose to be fun and relaxing?
What I do know for real is that what use to take me 10 minutes now takes
an hour.
And that putting things down and later retrieving them only to find that the
item is no longer there adds to the time line.

Condolences on the passing of those close to your heart there Douglas.

I have wanted to do this for 25 years and of course way to many projects to ever even get started. I talked to Walt Berger 20 years ago and he was quite excited about getting going on it. My plan was to make it on a 257 Roberts case at the time, Just cause I love that cartridge, Walt thought it a hell of an idea and if I would have sent him some ogive drawings I'm sure I would have had bullets in my hand before long. Using the 308 case would probably make more sense but why worry about that when this project makes no sense to most. Of course rifle loonies are loony so that doesn't matter. Canada has a 23 caliber minimum for big game hunting so why do we not have a 23 caliber rifle yet?
I'm sure lots of people have thought about it, we just need someone to run with it!!

Thanks Doug, and yes I'm getting real tired of the curve balls.................

Douglas, I'm sincerely sorry to hear of your trials and tribulations and losses.
This is the first I have heard of Bevan King's passing.... truly a shock !
I've spent the last 7 months crippled up and barely able to walk and now after spinal surgery am starting to live again.
Looking forward to our next get-together..... Take care my Friend.

Yep it's been a crappy summer in a lot of ways, and has drained me of time and occasionally my will and ambition. Bevan's wife's, and then his passing just 5 months later, has taken a great deal of wind from my sails, it's tough losing a good friend and mentor in a hobby as complex as gunsmithing. HOWEVER I shall persevere and I have not abandoned the 23 family. I have the barrels and the reamers and will be moving ahead with it. My findings with the 234 Douglas (23-284 for those who don't recall) and it's performance on deer last fall give me great hopes for the whole family.
Gun stuff isn't the only thing that has lagged this summer and I have to do some more work on my house to keep in good stead with the wife. The good news is I have now moved all my possessions including car collection from Whitehorse and have no more pressing need to go north again for some time. I just need to fix my lathe, get an action wrench and then get in the mood to get after it. Once I get there I can probably build the rest of the family in a week and then spend some time working loads for them.
I promised you guys when I started this project that I wouldn't quit till it was done, and I won't. Some of you gave contributions towards it and I have not forgotten this. Bear with me through these tough times and I will complete and post all data from this project.

Hey Douglas, no worries, we are "keeping the faith."

It's a journey, not a destination, right? And your fellow travelers don't mind the odd stop along the way, when life happens.

Doug
