If you're wanting to buy here and then take to the US later, why not buy a G26 (or whatever your flavour) with a restricted barrel, and replace the barrel with a factory length model when in the US?
Or get to love revolvers... there are lots of 12.6 revolvers in Canada.

Best advice!
Besides, OP, unless you already have 12(6), you can't buy a modern compact pistol with the <4.2" barrels anyways.
So buy whatever baby Glock you want and get the correct barrel when you go down. Just make sure you are ok with the recoil. Little guns in big calibers kick a lot more!
Besides, another hassle is shipping your prohib down to the US. You need a Canadian export AND a separate re-import permit for a prohib firearm. If you don't do this right, you will not be able to bring the gun back to Canada and the Feds would have gotten rid of one more scary gun!
That's actually a pretty good idea... But the prohibited barrel can't be imported so I'd have to leave it in America. I cross by car and don't really have a place to leave it on the other side.
Given that most of the 12(6) pistols are pretty big (and uncommon) looking for a revolver might be wise.
Ahh, got it!
The best bet would be to put a WTB up for a prohib. Your most likely purchase would be a Glock which IMO is a great choice anyways. I'm extremely partial to a G19!
Another couple of possible choices would be the compact S&Ws from the late 80s. I don't remember their model numbers anymore but I do recall a really small DA single stack 9mm model. An Officers ACP is a good package or a late 80s vintage PPK. I find the older PPK trigger really heavy and the hammer bite is bad but it would do for a small carry gun. Personally, I would stay away from the likes of Llama and Star but that's just me.
The main problem in our 12(6) category is that, other than the Glock (I think?), most are all metal/ aluminium framed guns which are a lot heavier than our current crop of polymers.
For revolvers, the J framed M36/60, the K framed 2-3" M-10/13/19/66 would be excellent choices for a shoot a little, carry a lot type of gun. These should be easier to find on the EE. Good luck!
Having had both, unless you're set on a sub-compact Glock, a G19 with a restricted barrel is great. The barrel only protrudes slightly, and not enough to interfere with CC at all IMO.
I found the whole ergonomics of the G26 to be awkward. G19 better, G17 best. If you haven't shot a sub-compact, I urge you to do so before slapping down your loot.
Made in the USA.
