Myself and my Daughter just got into firearms a few months ago. I shot a lot as a teen as I knew a gun smith and a friend of mine was actively involved with firearms (hand guns mostly). Never had time until this year to get into the hobby. Any way I've bought 3 pistols in the last month and half and just put money down on my next one, am I pushing my luck with the RCMP or does it really make a difference. I have a spending habit if anyone is wondering lol.

Thanks!

i think once you get to 10 or more restricted the RCMP can do a routine check on your firearms at your house without a warrant. but other then that you can have as many as you want and buy anytime you want.

Where did you hear that or is it written somewhere? Just curious. First I've heard anything like that. As a self identified collector, you explicitly allow the rcmp to do periodic searches as a condition of your licence. Haven't heard that for target shooters, or in relation to the volume of restricteds owned.

I think the keyword here is COLLECTOR - it is in c-68, but if you're identified as a SHOOTER , IT'S SELDOM ENFORCED- I've had pistols over 40 years and never had one yet- moreover, it has to be skedded by the cfo or his minions at a time convenient to the shooter- I don't know about the collector side of things- the reason I went with target shooter was that I was told that a collector can't shoot, which is probably a falsehood

I have a number of handguns and other than the RCMP knowing I have them, it has never been an issue, so far. One interesting thing I found is when my wife phoned 911 when we had an attempted break in, the 911 operator phoned back in less than 60 seconds and asked where our firearms were, were any loaded, were they locked up etc. However, when the RCMP arrived, they didn't ask or mention it. I think they must have a protocol on knowing what they could face before they arrive on scene. If the CFO wants to do an inspection, I believe they have to give you notice, at least I believe that's the case.

I bought 5 different vintage handguns from tradex as part of a bundle and I got flagged for "high volume transfer".
They phoned me up and asked me why I bought them, I told them it was a good deal and that part was done. Then they harassed me for my current range membership because they "required" it. I argued about it for about 5 minutes and they told me they wouldn't approve without it.

Just a bunch of clowns justifying the circus act that is the CFC

I don't think you're pushing your luck with the RCMP but you might be pushing your luck with the wife, lol.

Wife does not care I am taking her to cuba and am putting in a new kitchen and that cost a lot more then the 4 restricted I bought. Could have bought a BMG .50 with the money I spent on the trip, but then I would be single and paying child support lol.

Sorry ,but it is a falsehood....collectors can indeed shoot ; but they still need a range membership if they are going to shoot restricted....

AFAIK they can do inspections if you decide to go for collector status. But they will give notice....

The CFO's will sometimes flag multiple restricted purchases in a short period of time from what I've heard, particularily if they're all the same model of pistol/rifle. No official word on what the quantities or timeframe for the purchases are to come up as 'red flagged'. Worst I've heard of is someone being asked to verify that they were still in possession of all their purchases...

Sounds like they are doing their job / due diligence. I'll put up with the 'harassment' for the right to shoot restricteds given the alternative.

^ Pretty much this

They are looking for 'straw purchases".

You'd be far more likely to attract attention if you bought 6 Glock 17's in a short period as opposed to say, a variety of used and new revolvers and pistols.

no difference. I bought 9 so far in the past year, 4 of them are in the exact same month from different stores. it actually saves some trees because RCMP just print multiple registrations on the same paper as they received the transfer applications from different stores at the same time.

You have the BC CFO, that's their "thing".

Never had a problem with bulk purchases

Actually talked to my CFO, told me don't get collect is license, but over 10 restricteds the computer may flag you for a visit
