Make sure to be very careful on the barrel. More damage is done by improper cleaning of the barrel then not cleaning at all. How many rounds down the pipe? I haven't cleaned a 22 barrel in years. accuracy is still great.
Unless it is shooting very badly clean the action and leave the barrel.

^^^ This, once a year is more than enough for me on my 22 barrels

I haven't read every post in this thread...but to the OP~I use a product from 20/20 Concepts called a "Patchworm". For it, I also get their felt patches, and small cotton ones. Does a great job for semis, but you still need a solvent of some description, and an oil that doesn't gum-up. I also like CLP for a lubricant, and find most semis prefer to run a bit dry. They seem to take longer to foul, and are easier to clean once they have. The Patchworm kit introduces nothing to the equation that could damage your bore, so worth considering for a new, inexperienced shooter/gun cleaner. :)

On another note~threads like this are 1/2 the reason I say "get a bolt action" every time I see a "what 22 should I get first?" thread on CGN. Without fail, lots of people will chime in saying "Get a 10/22" but meanwhile...semis are 2-3x+ the effort to clean. In the case of this Savage 64 (again, I haven't read the whole thread) I think the OP should jump on YouTube and learn how to tear-down the gun for a proper once-over. You learn allot doing that, and it helps you trouble-shoot issues going forward. Heck...I've been shooting/cleaning 22s for almost 30 years, and I have to try and figure-out how to install my YoDave trigger kit between now and Saturday night. I'm turning to YouTube too! :)

Roger that, except that I use Varsol in a spray bottle (akin to a windex bottle) instead of brake cleaner. The brake cleaner is actually a degreaser, and will remove the oil from the pores and microscopic valleys in the machined areas of the receiver. Using a cleaner rather than a degreaser will allow the existing lube to stay in placce and you will probably see less metal to metal contact over the years.

Just a small point but this is CGN...

Except that Varsol is also a solvent which will flush away the oils just like the brake cleaner does if used aggressively enough. So it's always good to assume that any use of any solvent will leave some places, if not the whole area, oil free and that oiling afterwards to ensure protection against corrosion is still required.

Really, nobody said 'dishwasher'?

Shooter 1 of 38 did.

And thats why I got spray oil...

This is what I have 2 buckets @ 2800 rounds of REMINGTON 22-LR Golden Bullet, High Velcoity Plated Hollow Point 36gr @ 1280FPS. I was told that they are FMJ Hollow Point rounds.

It says right in the description you posted. Plated Hollow Point. So its a hollow point bullet that has been plated, not jacketed like a centerfire bullet would be.

Can an FMJ Hollow Point even exist? Like, I know there are monometal hollow points and stuff, but doesn't being an FMJ exclude it from being a hollow point, and visa versa?
