Hey all,

So, I know its kind of a silly fangirly thing, but I love the look of the Troy Landry edition .22 WMR Savage rifle.

Does anyone have experience with these? Decent guns?

The 93 is an accurate rifle, with affordable mags...I'm running one in 17HMR and have no complaints now that I replaced the bottom metal and trigger guard with DIP parts.
If you like the look, go for it. I went with the wood stocked 93GV.

I've had an FV-SR in .22, and I've owned a Savage FV (also heavy barrel) with the same style of stock, only black...and a regular-length barrel. They are decent guns for sure. That camo version is kind of cool, and if you like it~go for it! Only needs to please you.

My experience with Savage guns in .22WMR~limited to 1 rifle, and it shot to (what I consider) to be nearly the full accuracy potential of the caliber. Which is to say....around 1-1/4"-1-1/2" @ 100 yards. As I've rattled-on about in the past...I ran 9 varieties of 22WMR ammo through that Savage off a steady rest, at a measured 100 yards~very controlled conditions. So it's with some confidence I mention those accuracy #s. Yes, it did pull-off a couple of 1" groups...but they were the exception, not the norm. I personally can't imagine how a shorter barrel would tighten-up those groups at that distance, but that's pure speculation.

One thing worth mentioning~the geometry on Savage plastic stocks is considered pretty crappy for scope use~too much drop to get proper eye alignment when using optics. You can only really shoot the FV-SR WITH optics, so I'd recommend you consider a cheek riser of some sort. I personally don't like to tinker with factory set-ups, but I consider it necessary for these stocks. The one I picked seems to work the best, looks like factory equipment, and is reasonably priced. Google "Accu-riser". I chose the black, rubber one.

Back the rifle/caliber~I love .22WMR...but it's no target caliber in my opinion, and like 17HMR....too pricey to shoot pop cans with. lol If you (meaning, me :) ) have a hunting/pest application for the caliber~it hits very hard for a rimfire. Trust me, I anchored lots of groundhogs with mine. Dropped them WAY better than 17HMR.

^ Thanks, that's helpful.

Would the eye-alignment issue be less of a problem with a red-dot sight (like a Vortex SPARC)? Considering using something like that.
I have a really large head (yes that sounds funny), so it may not even be an issue, but I like the idea of the red dot on this gun.

I have a FVSR and i had MK II also couple of my friends have the gun in 17 hmr amd .22 mag. Excellent quality guns. Savage made in Lakefield ONT. You wont regret it.

you can put a bushnell red red dot reflex sight on it even with a riser if you want. 150 at the woodstock gun show if you go there. Look for GREG that sells the ammo he usually has one.

That plastic stock is more for iron sights. You get more of a chin weld with the plastic stocks. All the ones I had got boyds stocks on them.

I had a cz 455 in 22wmr and accuracy was about on par with what 22LRGUY had. Most groups were 1.25" a bunch of 1" with hornady ammo though.
