Wanted to start a thread about this rarely discussed gun.

Where can you buy 20 gauge 870 furniture?

Hogue makes some, but it all depends what you are looking for. They make very little aftermarket stuff for the 20's and most stores up here just don't carry what little there is that is available. I have a 20g wingmaster large frame, and it takes all 12g accessories including extended mag tubes. They almost never come up for sale, and barrels are extremely hard to come by.

New small frame.

Ideally wood, but a synthetic forend other than the long sliding pump they come with would be fine.

Thanks. ↑↑ I'm fine with the OEM field stock. I really would prefer a replacement forend though.

Not to high jack this thread, but what would a really nice condition 20g wingmaster large frame sell for? I have a chance to buy one right now for $300.00.

No worries. Let's talk about all things 870 20 ga here.

$300 sounds like a good price if you ask me. Condition pending of course.

It's in great shape and has only seen about 100 rounds. I have known the owner for over 20 years and believe the round count to be very low with condition it is in. I was thinking of buying it for my wife and 12 year old boy to shoot. I wasn't aware that my 12g accessories would work on the 20g. large frame.

Hogue overmolded 20g forend is listed as $26 on their site. Forend is excellent, I put them on all my synthetic stocked 870's. For the 20 wingmaster, I would grab it @ $300, just remember barrels are like hens teeth, although if I still hunted, I would go with a lw 20 just for the weight savings alone.

If you have one you'd know it. The receiver seems awfully big compared to the barrel. When you pull the barrel off, the receiver end of the barrel suddenly tapers to a huge knob to fit the 12 gauge frame. It looks out of place, and the mag tube is also 12g size. You can see what I mean if you look at the barrel in the pic

man...... I swear did a 20 gauge search on here last night and this tread did not come up !! So I just started an 870 20 ga pic thread..

Oh well, bring it on.

They made a 20 on a full sized frame(12gauge) and stopped making them.
They now make a scaled version in 20 gauge....
Does that make sense?
FLHTCUI

Yes, thank you. That does make sense. Now I know what I'm looking at.

What doesn't make sense is why they would ever have built it on a 12 ga.

At the time they just basically had to make barrels and twig the interior a bit. To make the lightweight they had to design the gun from the bottom up and do all the tooling for the machinery which could easily cost millions for a production machine

Doesn't seem like too many are into the 20 gauge.

Did some searching in the hunting shotgun section as well and not much there either.
