Had the opportunity to go hunting with my new-to-me 870 wingmaster a few weeks ago and found I struggled
cycling the action somewhat. Didn't feel as though it was binding, but I feel it was harder to cycle than it should have been.
Does anyone know where to lube and what kind to use on the pump parts?
Grease vs oil? And what brands work well?

Thanks in advance.

Aaron

Did it seem harder to cycle after firing or even if just emptying chamber? If after firing what ammo were you using? Don't forget you are also cocking the hammer after firing a little more resistance than just cycling the action. Dry fire and cycle to see if that iss the difference you feel. (you can use a snap cap if you want) You may get more answers if you post in shotgun forum.

Hmm, I can't really recall. All I remember is I nearly missed a bird because I found the gun hard to cycle after the 1st shot.
Seemed hard right from one end to the other and in both directions.

Did you strip it down and give it a good cleaning when you got it. May be gummed up with old lube.
That thing should be as smooth as butter. Something not right. Don't put any grease on it
No green corrosion on those old winchesters is there
Some of mine I think I could look at them and they will cycle

If it cycles fine unloaded and is stiff only after shooting check the chamber if its always check the action bars to make sure their straight and not bent or peened over anywhere. After that check the bolt where it rides over the hammer and as well as on there right side of the bolt and locking lug.

Haven't stripped it yet. Should I be using any lube on it at all?
Guess that's my answer, sitting on the kitchen table right not soaking in G96.
Anyone have a favourite between that and CLP?

Got 'er all cleaned up. Think it was a combination of grime and lack of lube. Could be it hasn't been used a lot too, think I may spend some time and do some cycling see if it improves.

Knock the trigger group out as well and blast any gunk out of it with brake cleaner or something similar. Unburned powder and gunk could be gumming up the hammer when you try to #### it. Common problem with autos and steel shot loads, I imagine it's similar in pumps. Can't hurt to clean it out.

Thanks, tore it right down. There was a surprising amount of grit in the trigger group. All cleaned up now.
