Another Yugo comes up on the "you know where" at 10:30pm, which is past my bedtime and someone buys it right away!
The way to make the current market situation work for us is to take it easy, let it sit for a few days and then I will make a
lowball offer, we good?:wave:

It was way overpriced. In my experience with Yugoslavian manufactured arms, the hype isn't real. I sold all of my Yugo stuff.
 
People need to dig deeper than the first couple of pages of the EE. There is lots there, but it gets bumped lower and lower because of how much gets posted. I found a gem 10 pages deep earlier this year.
 
My friend bought a Yugo at the LGS for $350 five years ago or so he says. He was blown away when I told him they are selling for 7-$800 now. He has never shot it and doesn't know anything about SKS's and didn't even know it was a Yugo so I have been schooling him on them. He was very disappointed to here it wasn't chrome lined as he claims the sales person said it was. I'd never pay more than $300 for any SKS.

Yes, at 7 or 8 hundred, I think that they are way over priced but that is what the Americans are willing to pay (or is that for regular SKS?) and I guess we
will have to pay that much also. I want one mainly for the novelty of getting an interesting example of an SKS. I'm hoping to find a great deal someday!;)
 
WOW. Going crazy with prices! I got an "As New" 59/66 (I take it that is what we are still taking about and not just the regular 59) from Marstar when they brought them in. After tax and shipping I think they came to $625 or so. Still haven't shot it and it is still full of cosmo. That one at $800 was over priced I think. If you can get that then go for it I guess!

Yes....but you know, with all this talk about banning SKS, maybe it would be a good time for you to unload your Yugo? I offer my help with that!:wave:

HaHa, i figured I might get some offers, just not that fast! Can't sell it as, with them going up this fast, i will need it to retire! Haha. Goes with all my other non-refurbed SKS's, 2 Rasheed's, 2 VZ 52/57's,etc... couldn't break up the family!

There are deals out there. You just need to be at the right place at the right time! just picked up my second nice Egyptian Rasheed on the weekend for $399.00 + tax!!! nice condition although it has been counter bored for about an inch and a half. Not too worried though as all the arsenal, counter bored rifles that i have shot were still really accurate! I figure that they were tested after and if that didn't put the rifle back into spec. it would have been rebarreled.

Yes, that someone was me! I was up late having a few beers and bam there it was just listed. Sent an "I'll buy it right away" and now it is on the way to it's new home.

It is an M59/66A1 in excellent condition and yes it was at the high end of pricing at $800.00.

Good for you! Price is a relative thing, SKS are being sold at such a low price that it is difficult to remember that they are actually worth much more.
Tell us about your Yugo when you have gotten to know it. How it is different and how it is better.

You are a smart man! Tell us about how your Yugo, Rasheeds and VZ 52-57 compare to SKS and each other. Which is your favorite?

Price is a relative thing when your looking for a specific item and you have a few drinks in you.LOL I'm also into muscle cars and I've spent a large amount of money on hard to find NOS parts. When the parts come up for sale you can't hesitate to buy, or they are gone.

I will expand on the US pricing.

Russian SKS were banned from import 20 years ago, supply doesn't meet demand. Only the non-refurbs are near $700-$800.

Chinese SKS have been sneaking in, from time to time and are $200-$500 and the Yugos are generally the cheapest, as they should be, realistically.

The Yugoslavian rifles are desirable in Canada because they were imported in lower numbers than the Russian and Chinese rifles. Many of them were hastily manufactured for export / foreign sales and were never used so they came in as-new condition. An unissued 1954 Izhevsk rifle is higher quality than any Yugo rifle. The wood on the Chinese rifles is poor and some of the Russians in Canada are in abysmal condition. However, if you compare the three rifles fairly, with unissued rifles from early-mid production, it all comes together.

Thanks for this^ It is easy to get caught up in the hype about something that is rare and high priced, especially if you have never seen one in person.
What I am going to do about the higher priced examples that I want for my collection ('49 Tula, Chinese D, and Yugo) is to wait until I can actually hold it before buying.

Never shot my Yugoslavian 59/66, collector grade and keeping it that way full of Goo. My shooter is a refurbished 1953 Tula laminate stock. Shoots really well with corrosive ammo. Haven't fired a Rasheed yet. Just picked up my shooter on the weekend and my nice collector one is still in the mail. I have shot one of my minty VZ 52/57's and I just love the way they feel! And shoot! Just so solid and we'll built. Definately the Bently of surplus 7.62x39 rifles. The Rasheed feels like any other SKS but with a really cool action. I would like to pick up another Yugoslavian 59/66 some day that has been fired so that I can try one out.
