Eotech out on handguard

I used to run mine way out on an ARMS handguard rail, worked great for close, dynamic shooting. For trying to shoot out to 100+yd it is a bit harder because the body of the sight blocks your vision somewhat.

Short answer is yes. You can put an optic as far forward as you want.

However you will need a solid handguard to mount it on.

It is important to keep in mind that the best place to put your optic (at least the part of the optic that actually clanps to the rail) as far forward on the reciever as possible. If you want it further forward than that a cantilever is the preferred method.

The old Jtf2 picture is only mounted like that because the rifle had a fixed carry handle.

I love this mount.....Rock river Arms / Eotech, with built in Rear A2 sight,
This sight was made for an AR / Eotech, EVERYTHING lines up perfectly...
you could mount this more forward.

The further out you mount the optic, the quicker it will be - assuming your technique is sound and you don't loose the dot. In the photo you'll notice the gun is a CQB and they're on a ship. If your shooting involves longer distances moving the dot back will make it easier to acquire the dot and make it steadier for longer shots.

it was really just a fad for a while because it looked cool, most guys just put them as far forward on the upper receiver as possible.

I would hate to run it like that as it would be way too front heavy with all the other crap mounted on your fwd rail these days.

I remember seeing guys running them as far to the rear as possible with those god awfull BUIS they issue infront of them. yegh.

By putting them to the rear you increase the sight radius when you lollipop the dot on the top of the front sight post. Which means you have a better chance of hitting your target at 200m which some ships are long.

I shake my head everytime I read someone posting it's faster to acquire a sight picture by running an optic on the handgaurds. Who needs to hold zero...especially if your handgaurds experiences any flex during shooting. There's a reason 99% of uppers have a 1913 rail. Your barrel is affixed in the upper, not the handgaurds. Think about this before you do something lame to your gun people.

By "hand guard" I assume we are talking about a proper quad rail - obviously no one would throw a sight on a tacked on rail with standard hand guard - I'm thinking the type of rail you'd mount an AN/PEQ 2 on.
