of the two which has a thicker jacket? nosler ballistic tip or hornady sst
I've used SST's on moose with no issues. 300 Win Mag punched it straight through. 30-06 stayed inside but it was a decent mushroom shape. I never weighed it. 180 gr in both rifles.
The Nosler "hunting" Ballistic tips have relatively heavy jackets, tapered toward the nose to promote initial expansion.
This is an upgrade from the original Ballistic tips, which were relatively thin jacketed, and tended to come apart.
The SST has the "interlock" feature, but the jacket is still quite fragile. I am not fond of either bullet where heavy bone may be encountered.
But if I had to make a choice, it would be the hunting Ballistic Tip. [Much rather use a Partition or Accubond]
Regards, Dave.
They usually work OK on broadside, heart/lung shots, or even mild angles, but do not trust them to get through any heavy bone, particularly at close range with the 300.

Are the Hornady .224 55 grain V-Max and Z-Max bullets good enough for head shots on Zombies or should I just use the Hornady 55 grain FMJ?

I only have a half a box of Hornady .458 500 grain bullets left and I was thinking in a worst case scenario a double tap in the head from my AR15 would be good enough for Zombie attacks.
