Thank you sir still gonna do another coat of clear looks better in natural light I will post it after its re-assembled !!! Actually 2 diffrent types of stain I used as well there are grey tones in it its hard to see them :)

Dont think I can hate after that....but I would now be afraid to ding or scratch it to shoot.

That's just it, guys spend time making their SKS' all shiny and pretty...except they are rifles designed for war and to be not handled lightly.
It's a battle rifle, not a Faberge egg!

Nah i just wanted to change the look! Its a refurb with no factory markz on the reciver cover so i figured shine the trud shoot it i just knew it could look more like i wanted it to. The pictures dont do it justice inside ill take some outdoor pics as well to show it true beauty it looks alot richer in natural light.

Nyet! Sergei rolling in grave, far too pretty to protect the Motherland. Must be covered in mud and snow to work best!
Very nice work.

So this is the basics of what you will need.

Id also recommend 3 stages of sandpaper
120
220
500+
You could go finer but this is what worked for me.
First step use that 3m stripper pad all over it get that varnish off that old gal. Then take the 120 sandpaper over it now if u wanna keep proof marks and serial number cover them with green painters tape always sand with the grain. After getting close to a bare wood step up to the 220 or greater depending on how much left you have to go and smooth out with 500+ take you time sanding you dont want to over sand material or make low spots could also use a block on flatter bigger areas im gonna assume you all know how to sand. When you have it finished off besidesyou serial and proof marks pull the tape off use one of the finer sandpapers and blend it in to match go slow or your marks will be gone. Then you wanna use the pre stain primer i figure this would work better for a lamimate stock. After you let that setup and dry throw on some classic grey the darker you go the less grey and more black/slate it will look this depending how dark you want it. I did 3 coats. Let it dry for at least a full day or longer colour will change and if u wanna repeat it you can. Now heres the fun part more sanding youll notice the grey will look like its painted on. Gonna sand out some of that grey to make room for the red So how much you wanna take off is up to you i wanted 50/50 balance or close to. Use 330 or up and Then 500+ After again to smooth out. I did one coat of the red stain the longer you let it setup the darker it will be and the more coats the darker. Let dry again at least 2 days now cause you really dont want the stain being pulled into the clear. Clear is easy get a really good brush or sponge brush and apply thin.Let dry before sanding down with 300+. You can do as many coats as you want I did two.

As a side note use cheese cloth between each sanding and also use a dry rag or cheese cloth to dry off After applying your stain and really rub it down lol u want it as even as you can get it.

Color choice is really up to you with is what I used a deep brown and red would look greater as well I would think that may be the combo I use next time.
