My "dicked up parts gun" ALL TOGETHER... pic heavy :)

Put the VX-2 on today...

I got a number of PM's asking about the colour case hardening. Please read the first page: "Oskar Kob" ! :) No, I can't give a ball park estimate as there's too many variables that affect cost, from the number and size of the parts, the complexity/curves/angles of the parts, and the amount of polishing and other prep work involved. I will only say that there aren't any gunracks in coffins the last time I checked (though you never know in the US south), so enjoy what you have now.

Sorry, the gunsmith that masterfully 'turned down' the action and re-profiled the barrel is now quite elderly, lives like a hermit and simply doesn't want any more work or his name out there.

Here she be and more money than I care to admit later...

(Unfortunately, it was a bit overcast today, and my dedicated camera needed batteries. I snapped this with my mobile phone. The stock really stands out in the sun)

Holy moly! Now that is nice! I really love the case hardening. Damn you kurgan lol that's pretty much how my dream Mauser would look! :p

Maybe it needs double triggers though Lol jk.. Also thanks for sharing!

Thanks gents. While sighting her in at the range several weeks ago my tang developed a crack! You can imagine how disappointed I was given the money I spent on that damn stock. I removed the barreled action, sold the barrel to a fellow nutter, and I am having it transformed into a less pretty, more user-friendly rifle. It's getting a stainless 6.5x55 Pac-Nor barrel, a Boyd's featherweight laminate stock and a Timney trigger.

BTW, that beautiful trigger guard and bottom metal are up for grabs. I have a habit of just giving things away to polite nutters.

The trigger guard is at home, the bottom metal is at my gunsmiths. I will be picking up the bottom metal when I pick up my newly transformed rifle.

The front sling mount on the barrel weirds me out but other than that, fantastic job !! Looks great.

I like it! You did a really good job on that one. I am a big fan of the 21H stock proportions.

Here is a very similar idea, built on a small ring Husqvarna. The fellow used a duplicating machine to copy a 21H stock.

There is straight grain and then there is straight grain! Beautiful contrast in that wood. A little red alkanet and you're off to the races.

The only bad thing is that a guy would have to case harden his action to match that bottom metal and guard.

Tang crack should be solveable. Shame to dump the baby with the bath water.

It's deceiving, but the trigger is an early FN (1948) commercial single stage trigger and it breaks cleanly at 3 lbs. It's absolutely perfect for my needs.

Sorry guys, when I originally posted I had a bottle of wine filtering through my liver and I wasn't particularly coherent.

lol! Cool, very nice looking job.

Not necessarily. You should see how nice colour case hardening and dark bluing contrast and compliment one another. I bought a Santa Barbara M98 bottom metal from Tradeex in its nice factory blue finish. A colour case hardened floor plate with the blued bottom metal looks fantastic.

I'm a real perfectionist, and cracked stocks are a 'no-go' for me. I know I couldn't live with it, no matter how well it was repaired.

Besides, I've come to believe that a "really nice" stock has no place in my gunlocker, because I am way too hesitant to use them in the real world. I sold my Sako Bavarian Carbine because I couldn't bear to use that beautiful oiled walnut stock in the bush. In fact, I bought a Finnlight stock for that particular rifle just to use it, and if you've seen a Finnlight stock, you'd understand why I gave up and sold the Carbine!

Man, if I thought it would work with my M98 Husky I'd have been all over the stock and bottom metal. I'm a perfectionist, but I'm also an epoxyologist in my spare time. I hate to see a good stock die. Too bad there aren't a bunch of 21s around with no stock and bottom metal. Could be a fun project.
