After the past week's trip to the range with my newly purchased CZ75 SP01 Tactical, finally got to sit down and write this up. Full disclosure, it's my very first range report out of all my guns, so please bear with me if I missed mark too much. So, here it is,
1. Appearance/Ergonomics. On the first sight, the beautiful polycoat finish will immediately make you realized this is a great gun. The rubber grip is a little average, which is why some people would upgrade it to aluminum or other grips, but I don't mind and it fits my hand perfectly and very comfortably. The grip may be a little skinny for people who have big hands, but it's perfect for my mid-size hand(just to give you an idea, P226 Extreme grip fits me well and I use large size on MP40, but mid-size on G22).
2. Weight/Balance/Fitting. It weights a ton, especically compared to the PPQ M2 that arrived on the same day which felt like a toy gun after holding the CZ and also heavier than my P226. However, that's not say it's a bad thing as the pistol is balance just right. Rocking the slide, you will feel how tight the gun fitting is. That's what seperates CZ from anything I have handled so far, including p226, hk30L and PPQ M2 which are all great pistols, but this is just amazing. Among the 4, I will rate CZ at the top, HK P30L at the extremely close 2nd, then p226 and anything else. Still want to give PPQ M2 another chance as my first impression was not good(report to come after this coming weekend).
3. Workmanship. While the outside is great as I mentioned and most importantly the tight fit, once field strip the gun, the tool marks, yak! I know it's cosmetics, but after paying over $1200 after tax, I wouldn't expect those which are not even on the $600 MP40. And just my luck, as some of you might see my other post, I got one so bad last month that I had to return it. Then I had to drive 2 hours just to hand pick one in person in case I ran into the same thing. Well... It's pain, BUT it's WELL WORTH IT!! You will know why in a second.
4. Reliability. I tested the pistol with wolf reloaded ammo 124gr FMJ and my own handload(124gr FCP RN with HS-6 6.2gr) that is hotter than wolf. Both worked very well. No problem whatsoever.
5. Accuracy. I have to say it is AMAZING! Even I have only been in this sport for about 10 months and only shot one mag @ 25 meters for fun here and there in different guns/calibers, with less than 10 mags in total, I thought I owe it to the gun to try it out and got really good results considering my ability at the moment(I am still practicing mainly at 15 meters). As shown in the pictures, with both wolf and my handload, I got all 10 on paper(sorry for the low standard.
), and with wolf, the 7 rounds were pretty tight. my own handload is much worse, but that's more of my load which needs to be tuned.
6. Recoil. The recoil control is EXCELLENT as well. As mentioned, I was also testing my handload in the same session, while the new PPQ M2 always tried to fly out of my hands with the handload, the CZ just felt a little more kick, but so manageable. Before CZ, I cannot get all 10 rounds on paper at 25 meters, not even my P226 with wolf ammo. I think this is due to the full rail slide design, the weight of the gun and the recoil spring.
7. The trigger. Absolutely great DA/SA trigger. The DA trigger felt a little bit lighter than my P226 and just right for me, as I always shoot DA/SA with hammer decocked on first round, I was able to land more rounds on POA with CZ than I was with my P226 extreme. the SA trigger is a tiny bit heavier/tighter than my P226 and again, just right for me. the SA on P226 felt a little bit "empty" at the initial squeeze compared the even, "solid" and "total in control" feeling on CZ for both DA and SA trigger which is just the way I like it as I have that feedback from the trigger all the time.
8. Sight. It has the truedot night sight which should be good, but I can't tell the difference because in my club, the light condition is neither dark enough to make night sight glow, nor bright enough to light up the fiber optical sight on my other guns(had to position it right to get it bright), so, it's just like a regular white dot sight to me in my club. sight picture is good enough though out of box evidently.
9. Decocking. the Decocker works just as any other decocker and puts the hammer in half-cocked position, so nothing special. I do want to mention the full decocking with pulling the trigger and lower the hammer. On CZ, it's way easier and feel in control than my SR1911. So, I am definitely comfortable to do that if I need/want to fully decock the gun.
So, all in all, I just have to repeat everyone else has to say about CZ, it is amazing! Then for whoever wants a decocker version, it's definitely a MUST-HAVE. I can't wait to compare it with the HK P30L decocker version that is coming next month from IRG as now CZ has surpassed P226 in my collection.
