I was wondering what brand of bottom metal conversions everyone is running for detach mags for there rem 700. I'm not really sure where to even start looking. I'd like to just keep the factory rem stock.

I've had success with PTG, CDI , Badger Ordnance, AtlasWorkx brands purchased here from boards sponsors.

Remember that the factory Remmy stock has to be inletted properly (straight and smooth) by expert gunsmiths with the experience. In the past I've had my inletting done to my HS Precision stocks (factory Remmy Varmint Synthetic stocks from years ago) by Casey (CGN: Arwen Ace) of TacOrd in Bradford / Newmarket/Holland Landing area.

Enjoy the addiction...

I've been using Badger Ordnance with AI mags, works flawlessly.

+1 for Casey at TacOrd. He does excellent work and is a nice guy as well.

its stamped steel with no liner, its likely to have a larger internal OAL than an AI mag

Did some digging around. According to one CGNer who measured his KK mags and found to take up to 2.860" OAL. So you're right which comes back to your orig question... why aren't they good enough for precision shooters?

I prefer bottom metal that extends below the stock like PTG Stealth or Surgeon bottom metal. With flush bottom metal, you'll often get misfeeds if you push the mag against a barricade or similar to shoot off of it. Pushing the mag into the barricade gives more stability, I find.

I just purchased an Accurate Mag DBM kit for my .300 Wm built on a stiller action (rem 700 clone). Quality is awesome and the longest mag system on the market for .300 Wm, 3.850" gives you the ability to seat those larger 210-230grn pills out far to maximize case capacity and still have a repeater.
