Does the MNR use a helicopter to identify hunters, camps? (ONT 63A)

I do know for a fact they have fixed aircraft at their disposal, heli;s are a bit out of their budget range unless it's a joint force cost sharing. 63A falls into an area that is surrounded by property that's owned by Domtar an a few other company's.

You underestimate how much tax money you pay.

The MNR (not Ontario, just the MNR) have 31 aircraft.

9 helicopters (all 130's except for a AS350)
9 water bombers
6 TwOtters
5 Beavers
And a pair of King airs

And they crashed all their Mauls lol. One of their pilots got grounded over that, so they made him head of enforcement for a certain district.

Don't know about checking on hunters but I did have one experience while fishing (about 12 years back now).

A couple of us had done a canoe trip into Algonquin park - three day hump in on one of the (laid out) routes. We hadn't seen anyone for the three days, we were well into the interior with initial access in the north east end which see's "light use" at best (no roads in).

Anyhow we were fishing on Radiant Lake when a float plane circled then landed and kinda idled it's way over to us.

The door opens and a CO pops out and ask to see our fishing licences. We showed them and he went on his way.

I was often struck by that experience - like did they think that we paddled and portaged some 30 kms just to try and poach a couple of trout?

Licence dollars at work...

Maybe? It wouldnt be the first time.

I know Hydro has been laying new power lines in the Darling/Levant area, it could be them. But you said the helicopter was doing a grid search pattern, so it's possible it was MNR looking for orange spots on the ground or vehicles on trails.

one of the guys i know was baited during a moose hunt...

he was in a boat... saw a moose, and shot at it from the boat.. shortly out comes the helicopter, boats... the story ends with his boat, car, and gun being confiscated.. plus fine.. plus suspension of hunting licences.. all delivered after some incarceration..

all that being said he did have priors...

Shoot at it, you'll find out quick who owns it. :p

And some people do!
An old boss of mine was a pilot doing some aerial fire fighting in northern Ontario.
One time he heard a loud noise, decided to go back to the strip to make sure the plane was ok, and saw the hole in the sheet metal right behind his head rest!

Doesn't sound like he was baited at all. I think there is much more to your story than you are telling.

That's what I was thinking! How do you think they fly aerial deer and moose inventory, fish stocking, enforcement, Forset fire fighting...

Did Ray Liotta play your real life persona in Goodfellas? I love that movie! Just remember to switch cars a lot in covered parking areas.
