First, please take my apologies as I have little experience in doing reviews.

I have had a James River M14SA for close to 4 years now. They built them at that time using LRB receivers and bolts, the rest is almost all USGI. I've loved it from the first day. I had only upgrade the op rod spring guide to a match one.

This is what it looks like before:

The traditional look is fine but I've had fallen in love with the JAE the first minute I saw one in pictures. I've thought long and hard if I really need to sink this amount of cash (especially after sinking a sizable amount on the rifle in the first place...). People always told me this wasn't not going to be available (the shop as a VERY long waiting list) and nearly impossible to get in Canada. I've asked at numerous shops known for importing those in the past and said it was a nice mount but would no longer deal with a company that couldn't be trusted with delays. I then forgot about my plan. My wife and I had 2 kids and one night while I couldn't sleep (kids will do that to you), I went browsing various rifle and shooting blogs. I then saw one again. I knew I needed one.

Tried again,, but this time call JAE directly. They told me they had a few one going shortly to LRB and to give them a call (they might still be available). I did, and boy was I ever glad I did. They had 2 coming in and I only needed to choose if I wanted the black one or the OD one. I didn't get to choose the options... I now needed to get some to get the stock to me. I recalled having dealt with a CGner sponsor who had may LRB in stock from which I purcahsed various thing over time, Armtac. Fired an email and within a day, arranged for the stock to be shipped to him with other LRB products. All said,, I had the stock within 6 weeks. Not bad for something people have waited over 3 years for.

I received it but didn't get around to installing it until today. Dead simple. Here a few pics.

It is a fairly easy install and the manual is fairly well explained. The part you do not want to mess is the locking lugs. These are the one that keep the receiver tightly into the stock. Here a pic with them unscrewed:

Here is the final result:

So I went to the rang for try outs and sight in. Target is at 75 meters. I've used Sellier and Bellot 147 grain FMJ. I think this rig shows some promise. I think that if I do my part and go out shooting a littlee more frrequently, it might turn out tot be good.

I've also installed a SEI tuned trigger group.Very smooth and clean break. So not bad for a standard usgi/lrb/jae match.

Looking forward to another day at the range soon.

Consider adding an EBR trigger shoe.

The M14/M1A trigger is designed to be pulled in more of an upward direction.
The original trigger design is not user friendly when a pistol grip is used.
The M14 EBR trigger shoe is wider & longer, with more surface area.
The steel M14 EBR trigger shoe is designed with the correct angle
required to direct the trigger pull more to the back than up.
The tip of the trigger can no longer stab the tip of your trigger finger.
The trigger pull feels natural & lighter with the M14 EBR shoe installed.

The M14 EBR trigger shoe was designed specifically for the pistol gripped SAGE EBR chassis.
The ARMY M14EBR-RI in particular. The shoe works with TROY, McMillan, LAW483, Choate, JAE,
AG Composite, Blackfeather "RS", Archangel, Vltor, M14E2, the M1 Garand with a pistol grip, and more.

I'd second what H20 Man said about the trigger shoe. I've been using one for a couple months now and it's quite shocking how a relatively simple piece like a trigger shoe really makes a difference. The feel at the trigger, when using a pistol gripped stock, is infinitely better than the stock trigger!

I've looked into this. Does it really improve the pull?

Yes it does.

This one is owned by a man in Virginia.

When in the course of getting parts for this build, i ordered a bipod adapter to fit the railnin the from as my bipod used swivel stud. Turned out there is a swivel stud on the stock just behind the rail. I also ordered some sling swivel, guest what I found a pair in the box. Guess i'm going to put a few items on ee soon.
