Does are suppose to be easy to hunt eh?

This one took 4 days - storm fronts, high winds with rain and snow kept all the deer in the thick stuff- and took one hell of a shot to make.

She hit this one from a lasered 280 yards across an alfalfa field. (.25 wssm, 115 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip, Redfield 3-9 x 40 scope and Browning A-Bolt rifle) We were sitting on a cut bank about 20 feet above the field and she shot from a sitting position with elbow on knee without any other rest.

The deer was quartering towards us and she hit it on the near shoulder and took out both lungs and the top of the heart. A 30 yard run and the deer died on it's feet and turned a somersault before hitting the ground. She was an old dry doe - no fawn - and was about 180 pounds. There will be a lot of good sausage made from this one. :)

And yes, she always wears ear plugs when shooting big game. :)

Good shooting! Don't hear much about the 25 WSSM these days. I alwasy thought the WSSM's were pretty cool, even if they were doomed from the beginning. :)

I forsee some yummy deer treats in your future!

I really like the 25 super short. The ballistics put it almost perfectly between the 25-06 an the 257 Roberts which is a pretty good place to be. :) Gillian likes it because she can see the bullet impact through the scope as the recoil is so light.

It's these type of threads that really make me smile. Awesome shot to boot!!! Congrats to both of you, well done by her, and well taught by you!!

Thanks. Yes she can shoot but that is what a lot of practise can do for you.

I remember many years ago while we were out for a drive looking for ditch chickens. We were driving along when a pretty nice mulie buck walked out across the road and was standing on the edge of a logging landing. I asked her to reach into the glove box and grab the box of 30-06 shells I had stashed there while I reached for my rifle case. As I looked at her I saw tears welling up in her 12 year old eyes and her chin was quivering. I asked her what was wrong and she said the deer was too beautiful to kill. I then put the rifle away as I was scared she would never eat venison again if I shot the deer in front of her.

Imagine my surprize a couple of years later when we went to buy her hunting licence so she could hunt grouse and she said she wanted a deer tag too. I asked her if she was sure and she informed me that she had done a lot of thinking about the subject and came to the conclusion that if she wanted to eat meat an animal had to die. She rationalized that a deer or moose killed by a hunter had a better fate than the cattle and hogs shipped to the slaughterhouse. Since then she has taken close to 20 deer ranging from does to monster 350 pound bruisers.

Right on 'Boo, you can't force these things. Although I have to say that the poor little.250-3000 in the safe must be sad.

Awesome man - my daughter will be there soon - see "Noobs don't do this" - hunter pink is the new hunter orange. I would be hugely proud especially considering your tact in waiting when she hesitated two years ago with grabbing the ammo.
