Mapgul products restricted from shipping from Brownells?

Guys,

I just got off the phone with Brownells after unsuccessfully trying to check out with some fine Magpul products in my cart, and I've been informed that Magpul gun parts (K Grips, MOE stocks, CTRs, whatever) are restricted from international shipping, regardless of end-user certificates or otherwise.

This must be a recent change. How recent? Has anyone else run into this?

I had the girl verify three other stock codes for various "gun parts", and all were restricted. Non-"gun parts", such as light mounts and slings, were good to go however.

I'm super frustrated. Your experiences?

Yup, they stopped shipping Magpul since last summer. The best prices in Canada were from OST when they lowered their Magpul prices but slim pickings from them these days.

Gotta' love the Canadian firearms community! If you can't fvck over a fellow Gun Nutz to get ahead... Until we stop screwing each other over to gain some bull$hit temporary advantage we're going to continue to be our own worst enemies! Bull$hit like the Swiss Arms fiasco, the constant price gouging (regardless whether the Cdn. Loonie is trading above/below par) and this unnecessary Magpul crap are cases in point. It needs to end!

It had nothing to do with Canadian retailers complaining. What did happen is ITAR reclassified most of Magpul's products and a lot of it became controlled. Combine this with the fact that Magpul is not registered for international sales through the State Dept (for individual sales anyway) and Brownell's will no longer ship most Magpul products to Canada. You can still however order any Magpul products that are not ITAR controlled such as sling mount, rail sections, etc... Also, you can order anything that is controlled by the Commerce Dept (Magpul shotgun parts) such as SGA stocks and forends.

It is amazing how one person says likely because of ________ and it becomes the immediate and only truth. Gotta love the internet!

Hmm. Interesting. I seem to recall ordering parts more recently than that, but it must not have been "gun parts" then.

Either way, my business will just go elsewhere. Given how terribly our Canadian dollar is doing right now, after taxes, shipping, duty, and credit card fees, it's the same or better to buy in Canada anyway.

CTCSupplies has my business for today. :)

Thanks for your input, guys.

People seems to forget before Gravel got a distributor contract. companies were selling Pmags for $55 a pop.

No they were not. Guys were paying that when nobody was carrying them here and U.S. Exporters wouldn't pin them and guys were bring them in as grey market items and charging a fortune. They came down in price considerably long before Gravel got their monopoly on Magpul distribution.

Often suppliers make their distributers sign a contract that says they can't sell to another suppliers territory. For a while Brownell's wouldn't ship RCBS stuff up here, but I believe that has since changed. This is all on Magpul, not on Brownell's, and it isn't only the gun industry that does this.

Before my purchase I regularly communicate via their live chat service. This tool informes a buyer in real time about Brownells policies from an online rep.

I buy solely from Canadian retailers or the EE. I don't even check the prices cross border anymore.
Even if we think we're getting gouged it's still better to buy local. If everyone keeps ordering from the US just to save $3 once the dust settles we'll eventually lose our local gun stores and then everything will have to be mail order. I for one like being able to drive down to my favorite shop and BS for an hour before buying a couple accessories or a new BCG for my next build.

And where did you come up with that...

Magpul has always been registered with the US State Dept. Gravel complained to Magpul that people were grey marketing Magpul products into Canada well they have the exclusive rights. Magpul sent notices to all their US distributors and dealers that if they are caught selling Magpul products to Canadian companies Magpul will pull their dealership.

And where did you come up with that? Your story is full of holes, why would Brownell's still ship Magpul products to Canada if it were true? You can still order Magpul from Brownell's it just can't be considered direct rifle or pistol parts. I didn't come up with anything, I spoke to Sandy at Brownell's and she informed me of the changes and why.

Take anything Brownells tells you about export with a grain of salt. They are all over the place on their interpretation of export regs. One days it's this, another day another way.
