Recommend me a 2-10+x40 scope

What type of shooting are you gonna be doing? Any preferences like mil vs. moa, illumination, parallax adjustment, capped turrets, etc.? Weight restrictions?

I'm looking for a similar scope to replace my big game scope. My budget is about half of that though. Giving some serious thought to the zeiss HD5 2-10x42

Zeiss HD-5 2-10x42. Nightforce makes a very reliable scope, but their lenses and coatings don't compare with Zeiss, and they are heavy for a hunting scope.

Oh sorry guys should have stated moa/moa, side parallax, don't really care about capped turrets, don't care about illumination. it's gonna go on my modern hunter most likely.

I've got a Leupold VX-6 2-12x42. It's a little heavy, but a HUGE eye box, plenty of eye relief, clear and beautiful.

And it's on it's way to Korth for the 2nd time. :/

The first was for an inclusion in a lense, straight out of the box. They gave me a new scope. The most recent is for an incredibly stiff power ring. Bad in the basement, unbearable in the bush at -2.

The next scope I'm going to try is the Nikon Monarch 3.

The Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16 x 40 or 50 has good paper specs, but resembles a child's toy telescope to look through. Dim and distorted. A buddy showed me his while bragging about it, and I had to really bite my tongue.

I think it's the Zeiss for you, but stories of 10 month warranty turnarounds have kept me from buying one.

I'm up to an absurd FIVE VX-3 2.5-8x36 scopes. They have a short body, which makes them hard to mount low on long rifles. Also, their eye relief changes quite a bit at different magnifications. The VX-6 has exactly the same eye relief at all magnifications. This isn't a big deal for me, as I tend to sight in at 8X, then when I hunt I "set it and forget it" at 4X.

Good thing, because when I shot my deer, it was so close the breadbasket filled the whole reticle! I almost would have been better off with a spear!

Hmmm did some reading and what are your guys thoughts on 1-8 scopes? Any one own one?

If you think you're going to need 1 power then go for it, otherwise I think a good 2-10 or 3-12 is a better choice. All the 1-8 power scopes that I know of are very expensive, don't have a parallax adjustment, have reticles that are geared toward CQB style shooting, and aren't that much lighter than some 2-10 scopes. So the only real advantage is that 1 power, which in a lot of cases isn't truly 1 power anyway.

In answer to your first question, duncansuds already mentioned the Nightforce which is probably the best choice but also the most expensive, and the x32 model doesn't have adjustable parallax IIRC. Another option is the Vortex PST 2.5-10x32, which I have no first hand experience with but have heard good things for the price.

Mark 4 3.5-10x. I had one on my SAN and was quite pleased with it. Not as much power as I wanted for my 308 or 300WM LR rifles but if I was buying a Modern Hunter it's the scope I would put on it, without a doubt.

Well I couldn't afford a Nightforce lol so I got a Vortex PST 2.5-10x32 from a member on here. I'm confident it will do the job.

I have a vortex 2.5-10 PST FFP and I think it's a fine hunting scope. Illuminated for dusk and dawn, FFP for holdovers, light to carry. It's a bit odd looking, but whatever.

Leica 2.5-10x42 I picked up not long ago is better glass than my zeiss conquest, better than my leupold vx3(though I really like the vx3 as well) and blows away the bushnell elite 6500 I recently sold. I want a swarovski to try out in the real world next.

I have the Leica as well as the Swarovski Z6. 1.7-10x42 BRH. It is a magnificent scope with few rivals for hunting. Ps. What I don't like about Leupold is the change in eye relief across the zoom range. I prefer the Swarovski or Leica

Look for a used Leupold LPS Premier 2.5-10x45mm Satin Rifle Scope they best scope I have owned for hunting, you will not be disappointed for me the best scope leupold ever made.
