Yet another hunting accident in Ontario

Another stupid accident. What was he thinking climbing a stand with a loaded firearm!! Not just the magazine, but one in the chamber!!

I wonder if we will find out if the safety was off, or the firearm failed?

I sometimes hate showing my location as Ontario, all the crap that happens way down south embarrasses me. :( I wish more people realized that those of us north of the 49th are not remotely like those south. Generally and politically speaking that is

These kinds of things happen everywhere. People just don't think at times. Lots of times these things happen due to old habits that go wrong.

I rarely wear a safety harness in my treestands (my bad!)... and I occasionally fall asleep... one of these days they are going to scrape my frozen carcass off the ground under my stand... and I will have the dumbazz obituary.

I really doubt the shotgun fired when dropped. Must have been something else.

May have caught on a branch when climbing... safety was off or got bumped of on the way up... tough luck... but there should not have been a bullet in the chamber when climbing a tree.

The people in the North know that they are different than those in the South, and congratulations to you for it!

The people in the South don't even know that there are people in the North...or, for that matter, that there even is anything north of Huntsville.

One common factor in these last two hunting accidents discussed in this forum is the age of the guys. One in his 60's and this one in his 70's. Both probably experienced hunters. Was it a life time of bad habits catching up with them or complacency? Work place studies show the accident/incident rate goes up after 20 years on the job. Safety means doing it properly every time even when it is often easier to expedite things. You do not vary and there is nothing in the pipe when you are climbing that ladder. I will sometimes want to get lazy and not want to unload my shotgun when moving the ATV a short distance. Very bad practice. If you make it a habit to always do something the proper way it will carry you a long way. Making a decision whether or not to cut a corner is not even close to the right mindset even if during that particular instance you do it the proper way. Safety is a habit. It is a much over used phrase in the workplace but it works.

Of course we know there are people up north. Who else can we count on to vote NDP and spend the subsidize money from the south.

I lived in the North all my adult life until three years ago. My riding was always Conservative. It's that nice GTA in Liberal Red that has bled you dry. Don't blame the north. The north has the resources, the south has the leeches that suck on those resources then cry about having to pay for any of it.

I watched an oldtimer rest the stock of his rifle on his shoe, tuck his thumb in the barrel while wrapping his hands around it and rest his chin on his hands. He would have taken his face off completely. He swept me and his wife. I just met him on the trail and quickly got the eff out of there.

And I believe that the fella's involved with the accidental shooting near Paris were actually from Timmins...

Swing and a miss.

He's from Timmins.

And for those of you that like to blame "southern" Ontario for your troubles, keep in mind:

We bleed more blue than you northern fellas.

Timmins is south... Heck anything south of the 49th is far south in regards to Canada.

Block voting by racial groups skews the vote and perspective, trust me, if that were eliminated there would be a LOT more conservative ridings.
