For a cut of moose or bear meat from a kind soul... I've never had either and would like to try so that I can decide if I'll want to be hunting those species in the future...

I'm in the GTA, would prefer it uncooked/frozen if possible..

Thanks

Too bad you are not in NL... Lots of full freezers around here.

If you manage to get some moose I have one tip. Cook it at low temps slowly.

I would second this, with one exception.... If I am cooking a steak, I do it like a beef steak.... I heat up a pan to max heat, then sear each side by tossing it in the pan for 5 seconds a side th n low and slow on the bbq......

Btw. When you try bear. Make sure you try spring and fall bear. We are spring bear hunters. Love the meat.
They also taste different

Also take note on when the animal was harvested and how it's was taken care of.

Way to many factors in how the meat turns out on the table
-time of year
- area
- age
-health
- pre or post rut

Young healthy animals early in the season are great.

Big bull moose and big buck are safe from my freezer.
Also post rut animals are left to walk.

I am a meat Hunter. Late season hunting I have a camera.

Moose steak. With a little Montreal steak spice

Over the hottest bed of coals I can get in the fire. Douglas fir works best

Rare to medium rare at the most.

Do not over-cook game meat.

Had some moose while visiting Gros Morne last year. Made friends with the hostel owner in Bonne Bay and after hiking all day with fellow Canadians, Germans, a South African lass and a Japanese lad, we returned to find a moose roast and four link sausages in the freezer with my name on it.

Blown away!

Everybody was floored because we'd all been dying to A) See a moose (some did, some didn't...one almost killed me near Bonavista) and B) Try it! I guess we all thought we'd find some locally in the market, no dice.

We went to and got vegetables, rice and we already had the meat. Everybody took a job in the kitchen, I was meat prep, and we cobbled together a pretty solid meal and ate together in the common room. One of my favourite experiences of my trip to NFLD, the reputation for hospitality is well founded.

Brought thr sausage home to my patents and they were delighted.

Oh my... You guys aren't making it any easier :D ... I've had deer and elk, and reeeeally dying to try moose!

None of the ON hunters can come to my rescue with a itty bitty piece of moose or bear? Like pretty please?

I'm 100% serious hoyt

I'd rather loan my truck to some unknown cheeky dude on the Internet than give up one moose steak... you clearly have no idea what goes into it...

Having said that, I give plenty away to friends and family.

I know it is a difficult hunt, and a beautiful reward... Unfortunately I don't know anyone that hunts. I'm getting into hunting by just throwing myself onto crown land and seeing what I can learn... Fortunately, I've connected with a hunting group on another forum that has accepted me into their camp for next years deer hunt! I'm looking forward to that, because I'm sure they will teach me ALOT!

However, they don't moose or bear hunt, so I'm still out of a means to get a taste of either... And I'm not the type to go hunt an animal without knowing that I am going to eat it all! ... So I just want a cut. Doesn't have to be the best cut... Lol. Toss me a bone here... Literally lol.

Join a hunting and fishing club and attend some of the functions such as Wild Game Banquet Night...
You will be amazed at what will be on the spread..hell you don't have to join, contact a few rog and gun clubs and ask if they have such a night.
Bear meat, to possum stew with fried raccoon nuggets for appies. Moose brisket and bear fat home made pie crusts with wild berries.
But, I digress my freezer is empty too and I really wanna try some penguin fritters.
Anyone...anyone ???
Rob

Some of the nicest Jerky I ever had was from a plump Berry feed black bear.

Most locals here will not eat Carnivorous animals.

Trust me....moose is great...elk is awesome...deer is at best ok...mayble for the table is well founded.....especially for deer
