264 win mag

Do you have a reloading manual ? If not, I would strongly recommend that you purchase one or a couple. Read it over carefully from A to Z. Especially the sections on safety & load development. The .264win mag is a excellent long range cartridge, depending on your applications & bullet selection. I myself run a 140gr Berger match grade hunting bullet, in my model 70. I have had very decent results with different powders that I have played with such as Re-22, IMR-7828,H-4831sc & Retumbo. My go to load for my .264 is the above bullet with a between min & max load of Retumbo powder as listed in the Berger manual.
As for the best powder, bullet, casing, primer etc... that my friend is for yourself & your rifle to decide. What works for me & my shooting irons my not work for you & your tool's.

Cheers

My choices would be Imr4350 and 4831. Bullet choices would be 140 SST and 140 partition.

And both those powders are too fast burning in the 264 Win mag except with the lightest bullets. [100 and 110 grain]

For the 140's, try H1000, Reloder 25, 26 or 33, Retumbo, Ramshot Magnum, US869.

Regards, Dave.

Well I finally got components , imr 4350 and 123 grain a max because it was all I could find . started at 55.5 grains of powder and now I am at 65 grains , does anyone know the approx velocity I am getting

i am carefully inspecting the cartriges , they all look normal. I have been increasing buy half grain increments . Plan on working my way to 67 grains tomorrow

WARNING!!! Do not go higher!!You are already about 5 grains above any listed load with a 120 grain bullet of any type.
I just checked 7 manuals, including Bob Hagel's "Practical Ballistics for the American Hunter" Bob loads hot
and even his loads stopped at 60 grains of IMR4350 behind the 100 grain pill, let alone a heavier one.

Please do not tempt fate with those very hot loads. You may get a very nasty surprise. I would be backing down to 60 grains or so.

Regards, Dave.

Partner you had better listen to what these very experienced reloaders are telling you. You are way over max charge, your gonna hurt yourself or the guy standing next to you.
Or even worse, reloading & shooting is a great sport but it need's to be done SAFELY. Send me a valid email address & I will gladly scan some reloading data from Hornady for you.

Holy crap!! I am all for careful reloading and going over modern book maximums, but the 264 needs slow powders. I use to use H1000, 870, etc...when I loaded for it. You are playing with fire using 4350, especially at 65 grains....

Listen to Dave (Eagleye), Jeff, RL-300mag and Hitzy please!!
