Has anyone tried bullet barn 405 grain in their. 45-70? I'm shooting a marlin 1895 with Ballard rifling and want to load the 405 grain TLG rnfp. Looking to get about 1500-1600 fps. I'm just wondering if anyone has experienced any leading with a load similar to that? This is not a gas checked bullet.
I will be trying 34-36 grains of 4198

I shot them with 40gr of 3031 under them years ago with good results. I think that load is slower than what your after though.
Why not go gas checked? solved a lot of my problems for me.

They don't offer a 405 grain with a gas check unfortunately. I can't find a supplier that offers a 400+ grain bullet with a gas check. Do you have any sources for gas checked bullets?

Those bullets should be good at those velocities with little leading. I have used 42 grains of IMR 3031 for a MV of around 1350 fps in the marlin guide gun. No leading and it is a nice mildish load. I find the guide gun doesn't really like hot loads and it becomes less fun to shoot with the recoil and muzzle blast. 405 grains of hardcast at 1350 fps muzzle velocity should be good stopping power out to 100 yards. You can always try it and see what happens. I have had better luck with 3031 than 4198 in the guide gun though as far as accuracy goes. IMR 4198 burns cleaner. You can always add a bit more 3031 to raise the velocity a bit.

Mine is a classic with the 22" barrel. Only used jacketed through mine. It likes them hot and heavy. Just have to play around with velocity I guess. I'll start at medium trapdoor levels. Just hoping the hardness of the bullet barn bullets would help me get velocity a bit faster

Shot about 150 of the 405 Bullet barns in my 45-70. I was doing load testing with IMR4198 from 36 to 41 grains. I was getting around 1,600 fps at 37 and 1,750 fps at 41 grains. No issues with leading but I didn't shoot a ton of rounds though.

I don't know if she is still casting them but I have a box of 405 gr Gas Checked Bullet Barn Bullets.
I run them to 1700 fps in my Marlin but it has conventional rifling not Ballard.

I have used the TLG 405 grain bullet from Bullet Barn in a Marlin 1895 with Ballard rifling running at around 1800 fps and had no leading issues. I can't remember the exact load but it would have been around 54 grains of Varget. That is the approximate load recommended by the Hodgdon manual.

A friend of mine has used them. He gave them a quick, thin film of alox first. I don't know what type of rifling his gun had. No leading complaints from him.
