On my first attempt to change the hand guard i purchased a single piece free floating rail. I could not get the front sight pins out, tried everything. I used a dremmel and ground the front sight down to almost the barrel , making my own low profile gas block
Then discovered i had to remove barrel nut to install new barrel nut. This is not going to happen with the gas tube attached. I eneded up grinding the entire front sight off ( very carefully ) and replacing gas tube and low profile gas block with free float rail.
On my second AR, 10 in upper , i just purchased a 2 piece aluminum rail that attached with the existing spring loaded rail ring. Was a real pain to install but that thing is not going anywhere.
