OK guys,
First I would like to thank those of you who are following me trough my .45 acp decision phase. You guys are very patient and helpful.
Now that I have narrowed my choice down to a 1911 and a Colt, here is where I stand.

1- Gold cup trophy = What I want but I am not a stainless fan
2- Gold cup national match = What I want with blue finish but does not have a beaver tail and I shoot mainly with 2 hands
3- Wiley Clap government = Both blue finish and beavertail so seems like the logical choice but the sights are Novak and I am afraid I would prefer Bomar sights.

What do you guys say?

Many thanks

Gilbert

I shoot my National Match with two hands and it doesn't have a beavertail. It still works fine. If you simply prefer a beavertail over a spur grip safety, that's another thing.

Shooters Arms or SAM from wolverine. Made in the Philippines. Best bang for the buck

Nowhere near in the same league, and I had 3 of them come and go (one of which I see on the EE again, looking for its 4th or 5th owner...)

Op - you could be patient and wait for a used one, if you don't mind not having that new gun smell. Examples with the dummy scratch tend to go for a bit less.

I wouldn't pay the asking price to get the Clap, personally. I dislike the aesthetics of Novaks on a 1911, however. I'd sooner have GI sights

Based on the fact that you like blued and bomar sights, the path of lease resistance would be to go for the National match and swap in a beavertail if you find you really need/want it. You might find the existing one isn't too bad.

Have you considered Springfield Armory? I like Colts as much as the next guy but in my limited experience SA makes a fine pistol for the money. Not trying to discourage a Colt purchase, but there are several options in the same price/quality ballpark. you will pay more for a Colt, unless you are patient and willing to buy used.

Thanks all for your replies,

Can anybody tell me where I can find a blued Gold cup trophy with a Beavertail? I have searched but have not found one.

Thanks

Gilbert

Hi again

ARMS EAST have a blued Gold Cup but it is the national match and not the trophy ( so no beaver tail).

Thanks for your answer

Gilbert

I finally made a decision: I just ordered a Colt Wiley Clap 1911 government from Arms East.
Nothing like a blue gun with nice wood grips in my book.
Thanks all for your input.

Gilbert

The full size government version of the Wiley Clap is all steel ( frame and slide). That is what I ordered.
