*CAVEAT* Could I do this cheaper then I am? yes, but this is my AR, if you don't like it, I don't care. Could I buy better parts then I am? yes, but this is my AR, if you don't like it, I don't care. *CAVEAT*

After having been bitten by the fireams bug 5 years ago, this summer I started to get the itch to build an AR. That only got worse when this summer, at the Petawawa Sharpshooters competition, I won a gift certificate for a complete AR lower.... So I'm commited, I'm building an AR, but not just any AR, the AR I've always wanted, an SPR/DMR AR.

First, the upper receiver.... After having played with a Lantac Dragon, I decided to give Lantac more of my hard earned money and buy their UAR. I like the lines of it quite a bit and you can see my greasy excited finger prints all over it.

For the handguard, I decided to do something a little different, I'm going with a 15 inch Seekins Precision SP3R V3 I have big hands, I'm going with a longer barrel, and I like the shape of the rail alot.

For anyone interested, this is the mounting nut/hardware for the handguard. The outer dark nut threads on to the upper receiver (the handguard attaches to it), the inner sleeve is what threads on and holds the barrel in place

Major missing components include, the barrel (it's ordered, but I'm not saying what it is yet), BCG (on order, and on the way) and the complete lower (I'm confident it is coming from the supplier/vendor, he's just had some challenges in getting the work on the custom lower completed. It didn't cost me anything, so I'll be disappointed if I don't get it, but I won't be out any money, so I can't complain too much).

More pics will be posted as parts show up.

update #1

Update #2, Looks like my lower has come to town!

NICE handguard!
love it, shiat been looking for one like that for a long time.
I suggest a noveske 18 inch spr barrel
I own 2 of them.

That is a very interesting hand guard. I'm not sure if I've ever seen one of those, let alone held one. I have big mitts as well, you say it fits you better than a 'normal' one, eh?

as a side note, I forgot to mention it in the original post, the inside of the Lantac upper is super slick. I don't know how they did it, but it feels extra smooth/slippery. I'm hoping it'll help contribute to a reliable AR
I like it so far. Did you get a Lantac BCG as well? They look pretty cool.

Lantac BCG was on the short list. Cosmetically, I like the contrast of having the chrome*ish* BCG. I'm unsure about the rounded cam-pin, but I guess it's not really a negative.

yeah, I am drooling over the Noveske 20 inch Varmint barrel. I'm hoping to play with this thing as 500-600 yards so the little bit of extra velocity from a 20 inch barrel over an 18 is why I want the longer barrel.

It does for me, your mileage may vary, but the flat on the bottom seems quite comfortable. I'll have to wait until it is all together to comfirm how it feels, but just loosely tossing everything together, it feels really good.

I may be wrong but I thought you actually need to use the domed cam pin in the Lantac upper? I thought the upper actually was supposed to come with the dome pin so you could use it in a conventional BCG.

That's a dry film lube on the inside of the upper receiver. Some manufacturers add it to their receivers, some don't.

I thought the same when I was looking into those Lantac uppers a couple months ago.

It does come with it. the documentation doesn't say it "needs" to be used, it just says it causes less wear on the upper *shrug* I have no reason not to use it.

**UPDATES**
Supplier/vendor has appoligized for the delay in the lower, and he is hoping to have it to me by Christmas *WOOT*

Barrel has been ordered, 4-6 week wait time was predicted, we will see how that goes, but getting it for Christmas would be both great and terrible.... awesome because it would be here, terrible because it would put more financial pressure on me to sort out optics sooner rather than later. (sucks to be me, I know)

BCG has shown up! I made no lies in saying I love Lantac products, so it was only natural for me to pick up their E-BCG. as far as I'm concerned, the plus' are:

1) it's chromed and should shed carbon/cleanup a little easier
2) it's pretty
3) should run flawlessly in the UAR upper
4) the forward drilled vent holes vent gas forwards. Sure, I'm not running a can, but I've seen pics, and they definitely vent gas at a forward angle, away from the shooter.
5) I've always preferred the full auto BCG, I'm expecting it to be more reliable, and for nostalgia's sake (Having played around with a C7 for a couple years, anything but a proper BCG wouldn't seem right)

looks right at home :)

the staking looks reasonable to me!

thos vent holes are angled forwards quite nicely. It's hard to see in the pic, but I assure you they are

What's this?? Is it a couple keys of blow? I hope not, my boss would seriously frown on that sort of extracurricular activities!

Oh, It's all good, a Ranier Ultramatch lower made from 7075 billet, with ambi mag release (you can see it in the pic), built in QD's, ambi bolt release and a tensioning screw! all this and no roll pins!?! where do I sign up!!

I guess I can toss in my daniel defense lower parts kits, but to hell with the stock grip, I want something bigger so I guess the ergo grip will have to do. Brownells Full length buffer tube and spring plus a DPMS rifle buffer FTW
RUmoOjs.jpg

Looks kinda nice with the Lantac upper. The fit between the upper and lower is VERY snug without using the upper tensioning screw... Daddy likes!

Thanks, my barrel is on order, I'm just trying to sort out the buttstock. I'm building more of a precision rig, so to simple choice is a PRS buttstock, but I feel like it has been a little overdone, but I don't have many alternative options :( Maybe a luth AR but I'm concerned it may not be as solid.

Pics of the ambi bolt release??

Wait a minute they modified the lower for it right?

they did, here you go. It uses a longer plunger for the bolt release (it came with the lower receiver) but the stock/normal spring. (forgive the ghetto attempt at hiding the SN#)
