Posting a new thread to prevent anymore high jacking of another thread.

Could a Winchester expert or guru help us out with identifying the year of manufacture for this Model 100 in 308? According to the serial number it is a 63, but others have stated the stock says it's a post 64. I have no idea really and I do know it is all original, I am the second owner and the first owner did nothing but shoot it. It was bought new in this form. Along with the weaver K4 T Post reticle scope.

If you need more pictures or information just let me know!!

Thanks in advance fellas!

Having the same problem with the .284, serial is 72696 indicating pre 64, however the stock tells another story. Weird. Hope we can get some light shed on this mystery.

Anything with a basket weave checkering is post 64.
Not sure if the stocks are interminglable though.

Edit............. hmmmmmmm.............

Wander down to page 34.
Some exceptions?

I saw that 'Looky, and every source I can find says this is a 63. I also know this rifle is all original. Maybe a late 63 build sold in 64?

I hope someone else has some more info to shed some light on this, I'm curious now!!

I know that sometimes the serial number doesn't tell the whole story exactly, the metal might have been manufactured in 63, then stocked in early 64... Not sure.

You have what you have, a post 64.
I don't think for one second that no change, whatsoever, occurred to the metal work at change over, except a new stock was put on the post models.
If I were you I would contact one of the big Winchester dealers in the USA.

According to he link Dennis posted its a 64.... Funny how that differs from other sources.

I'm going with its a 64 as those that have helped know a lot more about these than I do!

Thanks fellas!

Never really considered selling it... might be open to trades though. Browning BAR in -06 maybe, interesting bolt in a .224 cal or 6mm, I dunno.

I think on it a bit.

I'll PM you mr doubledog!!

now Bill, do you have a memory like an elephant, or is it just an amazing coincidence that I will be having a Browning Bar in 30-06 coming up for sale in a while?
EDIT: it will have a brand new Boyds stock on it!

FN?!? My girl loves those, and hers needs more than a little TLC, I'd like to get her a backup, but I think I found a '72 model locally this morning lol.

Sometimes things get a little gray when you're right on the border of a change like that. I don't think everything is written in stone as far as dates and serial numbers.
