Hi,

Looking to start PPC and was wondering to get a first PPC pistol. I'm used to tactical and duty pistol, but need info on long barrel pistol for long range shooting.

I don't see a lot in the EE section...

Thanks

Don't hesitate to post picture too

Just to be clear, are you looking for a pistol or revolver? There a 9mm long slide known as the PPC-9--rare and expensive. for my Distinguished Semi, I use a Dlask long slide 1911 in .45 ACP. On the revolver side, almost every gun you see on the line is a S&W--best triggers. You'll see a variety but most seem to be K-frames with fewer L-frames.

Please PM me any PPC revolvers that are for sale. We are doing more PPC this winter and bringing in some new people, I will forward the info to interested locals.

I was looking for a pistol in 9mm

Saw some sig sauer P226 x-six. Heard that they are very expensive, didn't see one on EE...

Thinking maybe to get Glock G34 or a 17L.

What do you think?

Any other option in 9mm?

Thanks

Random thoughts, in no particular order

Unless you're going to shoot the Duty Pistol match only, a Glock won't do it. Even if you're just shooting Duty Pistol, no one I know who's competitive runs a Glock. If you're shooting a full match, you'll be shooting out to 50 yards(meters) and there isn't enough mechanical accuracy in a Glock to allow a decent score. I shot a course of instruction on PPC with an M&P and when you get out to 25 and 50, it's very hard to do what it takes to win (or avoid embarrassment) with a regular gun. Frankly my 50m target looked like I'd used OO buck and the folks running the course said that they didn't think an M&P would do as well as it did. There are 1911's that will do it, the Sig X5 might do it (I say might because I've never personally seen a good score with one at 50m), a Sig P210 should be decent. The 2 best shooters I know in the duty pistol match both shoot full size metal frame guns (a CZ and a 92FS). In PPC it's assumed that you'll hit the target at 50m, which is much tougher than most folks think, both for the shooter and the gun - that's why the Duty Pistol match only goes to 25m. PPC is primarily an accuracy competition - I think of it as being the equivalent of Kata in karate, you move through a series of shooting positions being as perfect as possible. It is an excellent way to become an extremely skilled shooter, from most of the common practical shooting positions. All pistol shooters should give it a try, even if only to find out what they aren't capable of.

20-100,

Depending on how much you want to spend...personally I would look into the Les Baers 1911 9mm long slide....... 1.5'' at 50 meters guaranteed

I guess you don't know Roly then.

Nope - and not commenting on anything I haven't personally seen, as noted.

Roly is the Canadian Champion. Ranked #1 in the world last year (that may have changed). Pretty sure he shoots a Sig P220 in .45acp in duty pistol. He switched to that from a Glock 21 in .45acp and gained a few points. I think he is shooting in the 1490's with either pistol in Duty. Awesome guy too.a

Oh boy! Next time the ol' ego gets too uppity and needs a smackdown, I'll give this a whirl.
j/k, it sounds like fun, maybe if I can start hitting the small end of the barn...

I'm not sure that Roly is purebred human. I've watched him shoot a couple of times.

STI Target Master is a really good choice. been shooting one for quite a few years in NRA Action pistol and the 3 position rear sight is really handy.

I have an S&W Performance Center PPC 9mm with the 6" barrel and Aristocrat sights. Probably one of the most accurate 9mm semi's ever made. It has gone up against a Sig 210, STI's and the Sig X6 and came out on top every time. Please note the other gun owners were the shooter's, not me.

I don't shoot PPC but might in the future. Having said that, if the right offer came along I might part with this amazing pistol.
