Ranier Arms Match Grade BCG Gas Key Staking...?

This is off an unfired match grade Ranier Arms BCG. I bought it from the EE and the seller neglected to mention the staking in any capacity, and it was not obvious in the pictures or else I would have inquired further...but to my untrained eye, the fact that there is zero contact made with the head of the screw means that this bolt is improperly staked.

I recognise that in one of the pics, it appears that there is contact with one of the screw heads, but there is not.






Thoughts? Acceptable?
 
Sure, but I don't really want to beat up a $250 bcg. I assume staking it myself would void the warranty. If ranier would simply replace it, that would make more sense.

Email Rainer and ask them if it would void warranty if you restaked it, but I doubt it would. Having them replace it is likely going to be a real PITA. Being that it's second hand, I'm not sure if you'd even have warranty.

Conversely, you could just leave it as is and shoot it. If the screws come loose, you'll know about it.
 
Just an observation but I was surprised to see a MIM gas key and YFS screws on the Rainier BCG...wasn't aware they were using those. As for the staking...I'd just re-punch it. It isn't that hard to do (and you'll feel better knowing it's done).
 
Yeah, I wasn't thrilled to learn that either. I had assumed USA parts.

Personally not a big fan of some Rainier Arms parts although the Raptor charging handles seem to have a good rep. Received two Ultramatch barrels that look like they had been reamed with a Dremel.

It's about value for dollar...this isn't a budget BCG. The fuss gets tiring apparently, but not so much as to prevent you from posting trash.

Oh, and while it wouldn't be "going to war", a "match grade" BCG should be reasonably expected to make it through a 3 gun match.
 
250 is not really an 'expensive' bcg. And I dont mean that to be rude. Maybe a little more money than a DD.

Just because it's not staked 'properly' doesn't mean its going to fail during a match. Assuming it's torqued correctly, the staking is just a back-up. Which isnt to say that staking isn't something that should be done. It's just not the end of the world that some people make it (unless of course you're using it in a life/death situation).

Call Rainer and see what they say :)
 
Why count on your untrained eye as you say? Create a feeler gauge out of paper or cut up a feeler gauge and check to see if it is staked or not. Simple. I'd do this before I took the time to post on a forum that will have nothing to do with a resolution regardless...

Jesus, what's with you guys? A DD bolt isn't "budget" either and I'd be equally annoyed by a lack of proper staking. If I had bought a budget BCG like Norinco I'd chalk it up to pay for what you get.

And yes, I realise it's not necessarily going to fail immediately. That's not the point.
