So who's got one? I searched the forum and general feedback on Girsan is good overall but I didn't see anyone that had their 1911's yet.

I've been thinking of getting something in .45acp and ive always liked shooting the 1911 when I've had the chance. It's not much more than a norc and I don't want to spend big money on a 1911 right now, $500-600 would keep my wallet happy at the moment and leave me with a bit of loot for ammo.

So if anyone has a Girsan 1911 please pipe up, are they as nice as the beretta clone they produce?

I'm looking at the Girsan c 1911 s, 4.2" Looks like a nice compact handgun.

I didn't even know they had a Commander sized one.

Perhaps with the various Shooters Arms stuff out there, that have been well documented, few want to bother with another generic 1911?

If you're not hung up on the short one I'd seriously endorse having patience and waiting for a Remington or Ruger to come up used. It'll be at or just past your bracket, but they are solid guns, without the Brand X unknown factor. I have both.

If nothing else, have a free thread bump :)

Canada Ammo sells them, I am also looking for feedback but for the full size. Novak style rear sight, railed frame stainless barrel at a reasonable price, after my Norinco let me down I'm looking for a replacement.

Hey
I have two norico's in 1911 one cammander and one full size.
neither have had any failures.
I too was looking at the girsan 1911 full size and did alot of youtubing to locate reviews
only saw a small handfull of reviews but did see one guy that had updated his review.
basically he loved the gun and added some mods and says gun was very reliable.
I would get the can ammo girsan but wifey would probably send me to dog house , and we don't even have a dog..lol
anyways between the SAM and Girsan 1911 nothing bad except I think Girsan has better finish from what I can tell, someone correct me if the few reviews I saw are incorrect
Dam..now Im thinking about it now....
Glenn.

I have one. Love the gun. Nice looking and it's reliable. I did change the cheap plastic grips to a nice wood from hogue. Also noticed that it shoots low so will change the sights. Magazines are very high quality made in Italy. Also.. changed the mainspring housing cause flat one is better for my hands. Lastly 2 other slight mods. Sanded down Machining markings on bottom of slide and will change recoil spring for smoother operation. The flat wire spring seems to make ugly sound to me. I do have a beretta copy made by girsan and it's smoothest gun I ever owned.
Finish on the 1911 is like powder coat so it will scratch.

Thanks drslav, good to hear from someone that has one. How long have you had it for and does it see a lot of use, any hicups?

I really keep coming back to it, with all the good opinions with some of their other pistols I'm really thinking of grabbing one. Especially the compact version, I was leaning to the norc's initially but then the Girsan caught my eye.

So I recieved my Girsan 1911c today, I'll take some pics in good light over the next day or so. First impression is very good! Trigger break and reset are nice, fit and finish are pretty good as well. Frame to slide fit is good, no rough edges or machining. Looking forward to getting it out and shooting it, hopefully the registration shows up by next week.

This being my first 1911 and being a lefty, I'll have to get used to the thumb safety but I've shot a few 1911's and have always enjoyed them. Love the feel of the all metal frame, solid feel. Two things I will do right away will be to paint out the front sight and swap out the plastic grips for some wooden ones.

So here's a couple pics of the Girsan 1911 that I recieved, while waiting for the registration to show up I made some ebony grips and cut some brass screws for the grips. Range report will be coming pronto, have a couple days off coming up and plan on running some ammo through it. So far I really like it, fit and finish is great. Ergonomics are real nice as well, especially with the new grips.

Pistol looks great, especially with those nice custom grips. I've more recently found the 1911 platform in the form of a Norc government model in 45. Feels great in the hand and like the fact it can be carried cocked and locked. These Girsans look like a nice intermediate gun to work up to the higher end pricier 1911s. Congrats on the new shooter and let us know how she shoots.

Mine is great. Not as smooth as beretta clone but with few minor adjustments it's great. I have noticed that mine does shool low. That can be fixed with a new sight. Unfortunately I'm still finding out what make to use. It is not standard size. If I can't find one I will just mill down the front sight.
