Want to build a 7.62x39 SBR or short AR-TYPE

You just need a psa or nea (or some other brand) 7.62x39 upper if you already have a lower. Oh, and 7.62x39 mags.

I run a 7.5" nea upper on an nea lower. I think I read that 7.62 loses less in a short barrel than 5.56 does. My rifle is carried locked in a large pistol case lol.

Do a lot of research on mags and on the bolt. That's what will shut you down if you make bad choices.

10.5" PSA upper from Irunguns.

I've built plenty of ARs and have all of the tools and then some....
You won't build a better upper, regardless of cost.

I would not bother with 300 blackout unless you really like handloading or you are able to play with suppressors.

After some wrenching on NEA stuff, I would steer clear. IMHO

You could keep an eye out for the 7.5" barreled CSA vz58, they do come up now and then in the EE.

No muss, no fuss and super short overall.

Mine measures a tick under 18" with the stock folded and a AK-47 slant brake fitted.

Just another question if you don't mind.

Can I use the same lower with different caliber uppers - 5.56/ 7.62x39/ 9mm/ .22LR? I presume the uppers allow the different mag sizes to be used.

Cheers,
Jim

Generally yes

9mm will need a mag adapter, as mags are usually UZI type/style mags.

you may also need to change the buffer and/or buffer spring to accommodate the caliber/barrel length.

need to change a lot more than that for 9mm

need a bolt specific for those calibers 22/9mm/7,62

i just finished puttin my x39 build together today.... been getting the parts together for a few months, wanted quality and not crap, so spent a little more then some may think is prudent.

- NEA bolt/firing pin/barrel 14.5"
- Daniel defense upper and BCG
- bcm kmr 13" key mod free float rail
- AAC 90t blackout muzzle brake 5/8x24
- raptor charging handle
- bcm low profile gas block .750 with carbine length gas tube

havent shot it yet, but it does look cool :)

Thanks. This is all great info.

What effect do different buffers/ springs have? I presume they enable the action to cycle better, dependent on the round fired?

buffers and springs can do several things, generally all people care about is that it slows the bolt carrier down enough not to beat the gun up and "softer" cycling...... for the most part you can run an "h" buffer with all the calibers and be good, maybe goto an h2 if your going to include 9mm in there.

when you get down to the nuts and bolts though proper buffer selection cab keep the gun flat for faster followup shots in the competition world, much like a 1911 by tuning the "spring weight" (in the ar15 spring weight is replaced by buffer weight) you can make the gun shoot flat with very little muzzle rise...... but its all trial and error and dependant on your ammo/muzzle device/buffer weight to get your gun fine tuned.
