I have been reading about them and different brands. It seams there is some big differences in price. Watched a video on the oehler 35p vs chroni f-1. There is a 400 dollar difference but the results were it that big. I'm looking in the not so far but not near future in getting a chronograph and need more research. The one I really like is the magnetospeed and they have it at midway USA for 180 and 400 usd, so there is some saving there for exchange and duties.
You guys have tips or stories about your chronographs

I like the CED M-2 as I use it for pistols and rifles .. h ttp://www.cedhk.com/shop/products/CED-M2-Chronograph-Set.html

I have owned two Chrony units, but I now use a Magnetospeed. The Magnetospeed is easier to set up, does not require a ceasefire at the range to set up and take down, and it isn't sensitive to light conditions.

I've heard good things about the Competition Electronics ProChrono Digital. Not expensive, accurate & reliable so I have been told. I'm also in the market for my first chrono.

Those midway prices aren't that great in the end. I think the sporter goes for around 240 up here and the v3 is up in the 550 range. I know mystic precision had some of the magnetospeed at a good price. I am going with the sporter model myself

I have the Caldwell with the iPhone connection. Its not the ###iest one on the market, but for the 4x a year I use it it does the job. The iPhone app is pretty handy.

I had a quick look at mystic and couldn't find any chronographs. Must have to email them to get the prices I guess. I'll look deeper into it when I get home

Midway doesn't ship to Canada anyways. You can also buy direct form Magnetospeed or watch for Brownells to put them on sale again.

This is likely a good chronograph, but scrolling down on the sight you gave, here is part of the way they say to use it. Note how important the light, and how it strikes the chrono, is so important.
Obviously, those rules apply to any chrono, so I imagine setting up any chronograph has very much to do with how accurately they record the speed and is a principal reason why some instruments are roundly condemned for being inaccurate, when in reality, it is how the light is affecting them.

Lighting - MUST be balanced on both sensors evenly. If the sun changes position, you must maintain a balanced condition on both sensors. Whether in bright sunlight (using the top screens) or on shady days (in which the top screens are optional), it is critical to maintain a balanced situation on both sensors. DO NOT position a chronograph with the sunlight directly behind or in front of your shooting position. In this situation, the light will always be stronger on the sensor closest to the position of the sun. Relocate to another position where the light is to the left, right, or overhead positions. It is possible to tilt a tripod panhead allowing the screens to angle themselves toward a late afternoon light in order to maintain a BALANCED diffused light on both sensors. Remember to also angle your shooting position to prevent damaging the equipment with a stray shot.

As H4831 has indicated, lighting and setup is key with these cronys. I've used the Beta crony and the CED M-2 both have served me well. The average shooter will find the Alfa or Beta crony will do the job required. I find the crony a very important part of reloading and completes the picture, wouldn't be without one.

I think the CED might be worth a look. You can pair it up with trace pressure sensors and some nifty software and you'll be able to exactly what is going on.

I have a Caldwell. One day, I went out to my friend's place, laid out a couple of guns, ammo, targets, set the chrono parts all out on the table, rubbed my hands...got a call to go combining! That's my range report - so far. :(

Oehler 35P or a labradar is what I'll end up with again.... Sure could use a chronograph right now, need to work up some loads for the hunting rifles and haven't done so without a chronograph in many many many years :/

I miss my Oehler :(

im also in the market for a chronograph. i have never heard of labradar until now and the best part of it is i dont have to call a cease fire to set the thing up and its not affected by lighting conditions as i mostly shoot indoor. i just preordered this orange bad boy. :)
