Apex Trigger for an M&P9: Duty/Carry or the Whole Shebang?

I'm sure this has been covered before, but I'm hoping for some voices of experience (and not nitpicking).

I have a fairly new M&P9 and I've replaced the front sight with a HI-VIZ and zeroed the sights as well as I can with my not so great vision. We're still finding the gun a little erratic and I'm thinking of upgrading the trigger.

I have a choice of the Apex M&P Duty/Carry Action Enhancement Kit ($139.99) or the Apex Tactical M&P Trigger Kit with FSS Polymer Replacement Trigger ($217.37). The first gives a pull of 5-5.5 pounds and reduces the travel after the break. The second gives 4.5-5.5 pounds pull and reduces pre-travel and after-travel.

Any recommendations as to which will serve me best? Obviously I'd prefer to spend the least I can.

Also, anybody know who carries it? I've got it on Google from CTS Supplies (a sponsor I believe) and Amazon.ca.
 
I installed the Apex competition kit( brownels). It was a great improvement over the stock trigger. I don't believe M&P and groups go together:). More like splatters. Maybe I was expecting to much from my M&P , after getting spoiled with my 686.
 
When I had my M&P I installed an Apex competition kit with aluminum trigger. Great improvement over the stock trigger pull weight. Was happy with it until a shot my friend's Glock. Sold the M&P and bought a Glock.
 
x2. The M&P trigger sucks, no comparison to a Glock trigger. Even on my Pro Series, it's no better than the standard M&P. Trigger has zero tactile and audible reset. It's a joke to buy the gun and then change out the trigger and add the RAM from Apex and change out the slide stop for a Gen 3. Buy a Glock and you're good to go out of the box.

The fss trigger kit will come with both 5lb and 4lb springs to help you tune the trigger the way you want it. The fss kit is expensive simply because of the trigger that comes with it. Everything else is pretty much the same as the duty/carry kit or the competition kit.

What precisely is not to your satisfaction? Before dropping a couple bills on a aftermarket trigger you might want to consider polishing a few key parts. The Burwell trigger job can do wonders on a gritty trigger.
 
Are you new to pistol shooting or just new to the m&p? If it's new to pistols I suggest you take a handgun course and learn the fundamentals before you upgrade the trigger, I'm newer to handguns and a class did a world of difference for my shooting. Once I understood the fundamentals, (sight alignment, trigger control and follow through especially.) I found the m&p pretty accurate, it defiantly shoots better than I can lol.

If you're already good with shooting and know what the hell your doing try the diy trigger job first, all you have to loose is some time.

I messed around with the whole Apex kit - both comp and duty. At the end of the day, I ended up polishing up the internals, per the Burwell guide and using the Apex sear only. The key points are: the firing pin block - replace, or just polish the thing; the trigger bar, polish the 'ramp', the firing pin block disconnector and the outside of the trigger bar, and while you're there deflect the bar inward a tiny bit; the striker catch face (the bit the sear catches) finally (this is optional) give the sear a very light touch with either polish or 3000 grit wet and dry. Voila, great trigger with better feel and tactile reset (not that you'll notice, no one feels the reset while shooting, but everyone says this is important). It's also a rock solid reliable trigger with no lightened springs to screw thing up, no mushy soft reset, and will last at least 55000 rounds.

PS - in my particular gun, accuracy is not a problem - it's 7 years old and shoots as well today as it did 7 years ago (all rounds into a 3x5 card back to 15m rapid fire which is what all I can do on a good day)
 
I need to find time over the winter to do the diy trigger job, I'm curious about the final result. I don't find the trigger on my m&p9 that bad but I'm no handgun expert. I have shot a handful of different pistols all of which had noticeably different triggers, improvement is always nice though. I'm going to do one on my sks first, that will be an added improvement.
 
FYI: the trigger bar on newer M&P's is stamped with an H. I picked one up at P&D here in Edmonton last year that was stamped as such, and the reset is actually tactile/audible. Not like that of a Glock, but enough that I haven't bothered with an Apex kit. I will be trying out the Burwell trigger job soon though, as I feel the break on the trigger still leaves something to be desired.

I didt know P&D carried M&P spare parts. Good to know. Do you know if they have the new slide stop assembly?
