Got the barrel in the mail today, varmint profile 14 twist 35 remington pre fit. Always wanted a bolt action in 35 rem and it has always been on the back burner until our good buddy Steve started posting pictures of his brain child, well that got the ball rolling in my court once again, picked up a stainless 243 with detachable mag at the auction for 400 bucks, perfect platform, ordered the stock from Boyds and had some extra skip weave goodness put on it, stainless leupold in 3-9 for now, but that may change after the barrel swap. Won't find the time to get the barrel on until mid December, also need to swage some .35 bullets, thinking lead hollow base round nose somewhere between 200 and 225 grains. This is going to be a pretty cool thumper plinking rifle

I'll take a picture of the muzzle later, when you see how big the hole is in the end for the bullet you can see that the wall thickness is still less then that of a 30 caliber sporter barrel, will make for a stiffer barrel, as for weight at 20 inches long this baby is actually pretty light and one of the reasons I went with 20 inches was to achieve a good balance point on the rifle, I don't want it ending up either nose or ass heavy
 
I have plenty of .358 bore's... no picture necessary... on a short range thumper, that is not much for paper, I would have gone as thin as allowable personally... regardless... should be fun in the WT scrub... the older I get, the more I appreciate the concepts of "heavy" and "slow." I wonder why that is???
 
some of the holes I chase blacktails in are so thick that walking through holding a knife is a real pain, a 20 inch barrel might not fit either, and when the deer jump I always wish I had the 12 gauge with double odd buck, it's more like wing shooting large game at times

I had Ruger Frontier rifles in .243/.308/.358 with 16.5" barrels... the .358 was ideal for that sort of thing.

shillen prefit, 14 twist varmint contour, may try extraction with a .473 bolt face but I have a couple spare PT&G PPC bolt faces on hand and they are the perfect size for the 35 Rem case, and honestly I would rather have positive extraction and ejection, just wish they where stainless to match the rest of the rifle
