Can anyone explain the difference between the original Ruger SR-22s (without the flash suppressor) and the newer (more expensive one) with the flash suppressor?

There are many gen1 floating around buy and sells for 600-700 range, but the newer ones are close to $850 after tax.

Functionally are they very different? Were any bugs fixed in the gen 2s? Do certain aftermarket mags not work in the gen1s ?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

from what I can see, its just the threaded barrel and flash hider that can come with it, along with the sights that come with some of them.

Underneath the "body kit" its just a 10/22 with a medium tapered barrel and a free floated front hand guard. Both of them.

Personally I'd take the threaded barrel version because unless I can cut the threads and re crown and re blue myself, its worth it. Unless you are planning on changing the barrel.

now, I could be wrong, and if so, someone will tell us. :)

Ya the only difference is the threaded barrel and rapid deploy sights I think most of the price difference is the canadian dollar dropping. Prices have gone up a lot in the last year as new stock has come in

As far as I'm aware, the stock on the unthreaded barrel is collapsible as well. Functionally, they have all the same guts, the new ones just have the flip up sights and a tiny rail on the handguard.

I had a gen 1. The stock was not pinned and the barrel was not threaded.

The only thing I didn't like about the gun was that the optic and rail had to be removed every time you wanted to clean the rifle. I heard the gen 2 does not require removal of optic and rail. Can anyone confirm?

Yes I can confirm. When I take mine apart I can leave top rail and optic on. The chassis is seperate from the top rail

I have a gen 1.
My top-rail-body-section doesn't need to come off for cleaning.
Why would it?
