Do any other guns have a better bang for your buck than the Tikka ?

I understand where Kevan is coming from, I've tried Brownings (new models) twice and had a hell of a time trying to sell them. They are a functional rifle but not very "appreciated", admittedly not my thing either. A-bolts likely had the worst resale value of any hunting rifle I've played with, for whatever reason, X-bolts I imagine follow the path. A

I've got a tikka stainless synthetic 7mm-08 and the recoil is very manageable, though it is much more noticeable than my buddies heavier 7mm-08. not like the recoil is bad in the t3, just more noticeable.

Yes, its really strange because I'll maybe take 20 or more rifles to a gun show, price the Brownings at rock bottom or less if you can believe it and most fellas won't even look at the price tag but put a Tikka on the table and it goes as does the Remingtons and Pre-64s...

Personally I wouldn't buy another a-bolt either, don't like them at all. The x-bolt IMHO is the only browning centre fire I would purchase again. Not including models from days long gone that is. Browning has appeared to fix the metallurgy issue they had from years back in their barrels, and the x-bolt is a top notch action if you ask me, maybe not for those that are stuck on M98's or 700's, but it is far superior to most. The design and function work fantastic as well as being solid and safe.

I would take an x-bolt over a vanguard or tikka any day of the week and twice in Sunday, and I like both of the other rifles as well. They just aren't in the same class if you ask me. That being said, it's no Mannlicher Schoenauer or pre 64 Winny, but it's a great modern offering.

I'd stay away from Browning, i don't know about resale value but i seen alot of them at the range and precision is average at best in most cases. I really like Browning products but olders models ( except the shotguns which are still nicely made ).

Like other guys said, Weatherby's and Howa's are gr8 bang for the buck.

Tikka is hard to beat !

Look at the superlites they put last year. A really great platform add a fluted barrel and charge the same $899 for them. The best part is a few places still have them sitting on there shelves nib. My only complaint is the single stack mag. Reliable enough for the Rangers, cheap enough for your average shooter and accurate enough for pretty much anything. I really wished they made a 7x57 thou.

I picked up a Tikka T3 stainless/synthetic in 30-06 last year and absolutely love it and im not a big bolt guy but this one is a keeper

I have looked at or worked on just about every bolt action offered in Canada over 50 years...

In a two locking lug action the Remington 700 is my choice... nothing seals up as well. I own a few.

In a three locking lug action I prefer the Browning X Bolt. And I own one.

7x57 would be great, but they make a 6.5x55 which is comparable and very pleasant to shoot.

The single stack mags are slick!

The Vanguards and Howas are difficult to beat at the price.

Have no use for Browning bolt rifles since the A-bolt showed up. [Earlier bolt guns were quality, though]

Tikka is fine, but I am not enamored by some features, and find them to be "kickers" as already noted.

Regards, Dave.

Tikkas are $900 these days??!

That's what I paid for mine recently. It was the last 308 superlite I could find new in Canada. Being a discontinued item it was priced at 2014 prices. I got a quote from my lgs and they price for the gun was going to be over 1000 plus taxes. Our low dollar is really increasing the price.

Don't get me wrong l love the 6.5x55, I have two. But tikka makes a T3 in 7mm-08 built on a long action. It would be really cool if they were to do a limited run in 7x57. I have considered building one off a 7mm-08 myself but the minimum taper of the 7mm-08 means you would have to make 7x57 ai.

You made a very good choice, the T3 / 308 is a superb combo.
I'd like to find a Stainless lite in 7-08...

Wow I thought I would be alone or get hung when I said I didn't like Brownings. A T3 in 7X57 would be perfect. I love the 7mm calibers and especially 7X57.
In fact, believe it or not, before the CZ I owned a Savage limited edition in 7X57 that I bought ( and now sold) off CGN. That Savage was honestly one of the best rifles I have ever owned. I sold it to get the CZ and have no regrets at all but that Savage was a great gun.

I just got a chance to look over a Kimber today and it was nice but I am still thinking the T3 in 270 is the best bang for your buck. The going price new seems to be $889. It will be light, easy caliber to load and take the weather well.

Jacky, another good light weight rifle is the new remington mountain rifle, all stainless and a synthetic stock. Doesn't cost much more than the T3. Rem, winchester, ruger, tikka and a few others are all good. Get what feels right for you.
