Browning Superposed, how much is it worth?

Trying to help a friend. She doesn’t want this gun in the house , after her husband passed away.
Do you guys have any idea how much it is worth and where would be the best place to sell it.
I was thinking of taking it to Epps.

Any help would be very appreciated !!!

Roughly this. Could be plus minus depending on manufacture date, model, butt plate,chokes, etc.
Sling swivels and butt plate if not original will bump the value down quite a bit.
Still a beautiful gun!
 
If you take it to a gun shop, they'll take a large commission 'fee'... Best to figure out the value & sell it for the widow so that she recoups more funds.

Does the o/u have removable choke tubes? That would add to it's value. I did notice that it has s 3" chamber, so that's a plus in today's shotgun market.

May be just the pics but if that light coloration showing on the barrels is rust starting from being stored in that case get her cleaned up and reoiled prior to taking it anywhere. $1500 would be in the ball park for sure.Looks like a nice gun

There are no chokes and no manual. Can’t find the serial number on this gun, so I could figure out what year it was made.
Butt plate has Browning on it but it says it was made in USA but the gun was made in Belgium so not sure.

The gun was made in Belgium, as stamped on the barrels.

For the serial number, is it under the action release? When you push it to the side to 'break' the gun?

The gun would have fixed chokes... If you remove the fore end wood, the barrels chokes are stamped near the chamber end.

Depending on what they are, and who was interested in the gun, it might not matter to them. But, it matters as the gun is less versatile.

I don’t really know how to do that. Don’t want to break anything.
Is it important to know what choke it has to determine the value?
 
The only way to tell for sure what the chokes are is to measure the bore with a bore gauge. If you live in SW Ontario, I have one and would be happy to measure them for you.

Not 1952 as I read the 3" guns weren't introduced until 1955.

Measure the length of pull to see if the stock was cut for the recoil pad. The LOP would be the distance from the face of the trigger, and in this case , to the rear of the stock center not including the recoil pad. The correct LOP on a Superposed is 14.25 with or without a recoil pad.

The choke designations should be marked on the side of the chamber's below the ejectors on the left hand side when you open the barrels.

Post the serial number and perhaps we can help you out.. Hopefully your not in the 1966 -1972 salt wood problem range.

Appears you have a post 1970 gun as it has the full pistol grip, long tang and flat knob that was introduced 1970 - 71 so a check for the salt wood is advisable.

If you could post a better pic of the gun as you have posted in your last picture with the action open. I zoomed in on it and fuzzy but looks like the gun is choked full / full unless as they were opened up at some point and then, as mentioned, would need to be measured.

Quick basic test is take a dime and sit on end on the front of the barrel. It should just sit in but not drop in if the chokes are full.
 
I saw one sell at the LGS (on consignment, similar situation) about a year and a half ago.

It sold for $1800, it showed use, but no visible damage. It was not abused. I would "call" it 80% NRA scale. It had a factory carry case, 12ga with 20 & .410 tubes. Had the original manual and original sales receipt..... No choke tubes Iirc.....

I would place value of this particular sample at $1250-$1400.....

Thanks for the kudos guys. I'm glad to help out. I've seen a lot of shotguns over the years that have different chokes than as marked. I live in Woodstock and travel around SW Ontario. If anyone has a barrel they want checked, I'd be glad to do it. The only thing is that the barrel needs to be clean. It only takes a minute to do.
