CFB suffield hunt

Wow, fellas. Should I even bother? Heading for there Thursday night.
I had a buddy there last week work for a week, then hunt for two days. He's disgusted and never hunting again. One animal he took had been shot 5 times. Broken front shoulder, bullet out through the brisket. Smashed hind quarter, bullet out through the ass. One hoof nearly shot off, gut-shot, nose nearly blown off. Finished it standing over her.

I have priority 11 for bull elk, and you think that I would apply around or in the Suffield Base, not a chance! It has been a chit show since the last two seasons. If this cull method continues the way it is, they will never get the herd to manageable levels. There are approx. 8,000 elk in and around the base. If they cull 2,000, that leaves 6,000. Out of the 6,000 elk 5,000 are cows, cows have one calf or more in the spring of 2016, that will make 11,000 elk which include the bulls.
Government has to get in there and do it themselves, on land, air and water.
 
My brother was out there last week and brought home two elk. He said it was a pain to get a shot at one before other people did or scared them off. I hunted camp Wainwright many times and it seemed if you got off the roads nobody was around. They all drove the roads.

I thought it was a well run hunt, very safe, good people everywhere, and occasionally some animals.
 
I ended up bringing home 2 cows. It was an enjoyable time. We stayed away from the crowds and were able to find (thanks to another kind hunter for telling us where he saw a couple cows hiding out.) 2 elk to bring home. got one the first afternoon then the second by 9 AM the second day hanging out next to a road that we were lucky enough to be the first ones to travel that morning. Saw quite a few guys leaving with bulls in the back of their trucks. Didn't see any large hurds that like there were said to have been so that was somewhat disappointing. But none the less I came out with what I wanted.

All in a I'd say it was worth it and I think I'll do it again next year.
