Hi-

Wondering if anybody here has experienced this with their M&P and what did you do or who could I send it to for repair? Mine is an older model in .40 with the mag disconnect safety. I'd say the trigger does not reset about five to ten percent of the time. Rack the slide back a little and it resets. And no, it is not due to not letting the trigger forward enough after firing. I've shot many rounds through it and never experienced the problem until recently. Any help would be apreciated.

isnt that Murray Charlton fella the S&W service and warranty guy up here in canada?

ya i just checked his web page, he still is the S&W go to guy.
id give him a dingle and chat with him about it.

check around #18 where the spring is, gunked or needs replacement maybe

When you say racked and it resets, does it reset when you push the trigger forward?.. if not then something might be snagging around the sear? (clean area around #25)

Thanks for this. I just called and will be sending it to them. I had called M.D. Charlton awhile back about this and they said they did not service S&W. Apparently, Murray used to own that company so there has been some confusion.

It resets only after racking the slide back far enough to do so. You do not have to take it back far enough to eject the round. Without racking the slide its just like there is no mag in the gun as far as the trigger is concerned. This one has the mag safety.

My brother had this exact problem.

I encountered it mor often than he did when shooting his handgun. I was letting up of the trigger more slowly after the shot.

We solved the problem with an Apex trigger installed by Dean at Select Shooting Supplies. Awesome trigger in it now.

On part 18, raise the little candy cane shaped loop by a tiny bit.

I think you mean "open" the loop. That loop is what caused the dead trigger syndrome on my Pro when I installed the Apex upgrade. The loop was closed just a wee bit too much.

OK so the trigger extends all the way back forward and you just have a dead trigger? Is your m&p pre 2010 mfg by chance?

It may be a spring plunger problem where under recoil it sometimes doesn't reset sear

It is pre 2010. Thanks for all the advice but to be honest I'd rather have a pro look at this make sure it is done right. The gun was 100% reliable for a long time and I want to make absolutely sure it is again and stays that way.

The dead trigger is the result of a 1/16" spring and plunger under the sear in the sear housing block. It's a known issue with M&P's that were made prior to Sept 2010. Supposedly all M&P's made after Sept 2010 has the updated sear housing block with the 1/8" sear spring and plunger installed. This gets rid of the dead trigger.

Brownell's has the universal sear housing block w/mag disconnect in stock now. But there is no guarantee that you will get one with the 1/8" sear spring and plunger. It's hit and miss with them. For some reason Brownell's always seem to stock the Generation 1 M&P parts. Everybody else has the Generation 3 parts but none of those places ship to Canada.
