Mannlichers....

Count me as one who is not a huge fan of the M-72. The safety is very odd indeed and I find the lines aren't as trim. But if you like them, then I know the guy who owns the very last one made. It has deep relief engraving from the factory and is unfired. I think I may have posted a picture of it earlier in this thread. The owner is getting old so I suspect he may sell it, but I wouldn't be expecting any great deal, if you know what I mean. Then again, it is an interesting piece of history so I guess it's worth whatever someone will pay.

Here it is:

For those who are fans of the great M-72 here is some hard to find technical information:

Very nice! My very first hunting rifle was a sporterized Greek in 6.5x54 and I loved that gun. When I was a teen ager, my dad used the 6.5x54 as a trade in for a Winchester Westerner in 7mm rem mag. I liked the winchester, but was very upset that my MS had been sacrificed for it.

When I was a kid, my dad found a knife I had lost the year before. It was my first real hunting knife: a Solingen skinner with stag grips. He found it when he ran over it with a lawnmower. To surprise me, he "sharpened" it...with a real coarse grinding wheel. He totally ruined it and didn't understand when I wasn't happy about it. He was always a dangerous man with a grinder.

Last weekend I picked up a real nice Heym SR20L full-stock .270 with DST. I'll post a few pictures.

My new Heym SR20L full-stock .270 Win. with DST and 3-position safety. I put together a simple reliable rig: a Swarovski 4X32 in QD Warne rings. Steel Weaver-type bases. The Heym takes the same scope bases as a Mauser 98 so that is handy.

Except it doesn't. Its very close to being the same as a Mauser 98 but just different enough to cause some alignment problems. After a lot of mix and match fitting, I finally arrived at a combo that works: For the front base I used a steel Warne Maxima Weaver-style base for a Mauser 98 ( its quite a bit lower than the standard Weaver M-98 base). For the rear I used a #55 alloy Weaver base, the same as for an HVA small ring Mauser. They came out to be exactly the same height. So now we are exactly level and parallel with the receiver. I could go with relatively expensive EAW rings (available in Canada for this rifle) but I like the simplicity and versatility of Weaver type mounts.

Serbian made post war mauser using a military action probably done in the 50s and 60s, has a bueler safety which was probably added later by a previous owner. It has some of the nice features of the mauser sported of the day, double set triggers, hinged floor plate with lever release, butter knife bolt and double leaf right sight. Also has kragujevac on the receiver with a triangle with which looks like a c and a s inside
